Mumbai Police on Thursday said forensic reports confirmed the presence of zinc phosphide, a rat poison ingredient, in samples collected during the investigation into the deaths of four members of a family in south Mumbai’s Pydhonie area.

According to officials, the victims died last month due to poisoning, and further investigation is currently underway.

The development came after the Forensic Science Laboratory submitted its findings regarding biological and food samples connected to the case.

The deceased were identified as:

• Abdulla Dokadia, 44
• Nasrin Dokadia, 35
• Aayesha Dokadia, 16
• Zaineb Dokadia, 13

The family lived in the Pydhonie area of south Mumbai.

FSL Confirms Presence Of Zinc Phosphide

Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Mundhe stated that the Forensic Science Laboratory detected zinc phosphide in multiple biological samples.

• Spleen samples
• Stomach contents
• Bile samples
• Abdominal fat samples

Zinc phosphide is commonly used in rat poison formulations and can be highly toxic if consumed.

Watermelon Sample Also Tested Positive

Police officials stated that a watermelon sample collected during the investigation also tested positive for zinc phosphide.

At the same time, authorities said:

• Other food items tested negative
• No additional contaminated food samples were confirmed so far

Investigators are now examining how the toxic substance entered the food item and the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The JJ Marg police station is continuing further investigation into the case.
