Jaishankar’s comments emphasized the importance of strategic planning and stability in international relations, particularly with India’s neighboring countries.

Jaishankar’s Perspective on Global Diplomacy

Jaishankar pointed out that countries constantly compete to maximize their strength, but emphasized that India should not be intimidated by this competition. He stressed the need for India to prepare in advance and not respond reactively to any actions taken by neighboring countries that could be against India’s interests. According to him, India’s foreign policy should always prioritize national interests, even in the face of shifting global dynamics.

He outlined India’s "Neighbourhood First" policy, noting that while diplomacy with neighboring countries is crucial, it is vital that India remains prepared for both collaboration and potential challenges in the region.

India-US Relations Under Trump’s Leadership

During the session, Jaishankar also discussed India's relationship with the United States under the leadership of former US President Donald Trump. He referred to Trump as an "American nationalist", emphasizing that while there may be policy differences, India and the US share significant areas of alignment.

Jaishankar acknowledged that Trump’s policies may bring changes to global affairs but reaffirmed that India’s foreign policy would remain driven by its own national interests, irrespective of external pressures. Jaishankar further elaborated, stating that while India and the US may not always see eye-to-eye on every issue, there are many areas of shared interests where the two countries would find common ground.

Personal Ties Between Modi and Trump

In his speech, Jaishankar also highlighted the strong personal bond between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump, which has played a role in strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and the United States.
