BJP spokesperson and Member of Parliament (MP) Sambit Patra launched a sharp criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, referring to him as a "traitor of the highest order" during a press conference. Patra alleged that Gandhi is a part of a “triangle conspiracy” aimed at defaming India. This alleged triangle, according to Patra, consists of George Soros, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), and Rahul Gandhi himself.

The Triangle Conspiracy Allegations

Explaining the conspiracy, Patra said, “On one side is George Soros, sitting in the United States, along with his foundation and American agencies. The second side is OCCRP, a global news portal allegedly funded by Soros, and the third and most critical part is Rahul Gandhi.” He claimed that this combination worked systematically to tarnish India’s global reputation.

Patra cited a 2021 instance where OCCRP published a report alleging irregularities in the procurement of Covaxin, India’s indigenous COVID-19 vaccine. This report, according to Patra, was quickly leveraged by the Congress Party to attack the government, thereby undermining India’s global image during the pandemic.

OCCRP and Its Alleged Bias

Highlighting the operations of OCCRP, Patra alleged that the agency, funded by George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, works to advance the agenda of its funders. Referring to a report by Mediapart, he emphasized that OCCRP avoided covering U.S.-related issues in its early years due to its funding sources. However, the agency allegedly used its platform to target India through negative narratives.

Patra stated, “OCCRP dictates, and Rahul Gandhi follows. This pattern of utilizing biased reports to criticize India exposes a larger, deliberate strategy aimed at destabilizing the country.”

Targeting Rahul Gandhi

Patra’s harshest criticism was reserved for Rahul Gandhi, whom he called a "traitor of the highest order." He accused Gandhi of consistently collaborating with forces that aim to harm India’s sovereignty and interests. According to the BJP MP, Gandhi’s actions have often aligned with narratives pushed by organizations like OCCRP.

He further linked Gandhi’s statements and Congress’s stance on international reports to George Soros, whose philanthropy has been widely criticized for allegedly interfering in domestic politics worldwide.

Political Implications

The BJP’s allegations come amidst heightened political tensions in the country, with the 2024 general elections approaching. By accusing Rahul Gandhi of anti-national tendencies, the BJP has escalated its rhetoric, focusing on nationalistic themes.

The Congress Party has yet to respond to these allegations. However, similar accusations in the past have led to heated debates in Parliament and on public platforms.
