What's covered under the Article:
- Sandeep Dikshit believes AAP will form the next government in Delhi, despite exit poll projections.
- Congress leader Pramod Tiwari attacks BJP and AAP over alleged election malpractice.
- Dikshit optimistic about Congress's performance, estimating 17-18% vote share in Delhi.
As exit poll projections continue to suggest a BJP victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, Sandeep Dikshit, the son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, has expressed his belief that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is being underestimated by these projections and is poised to form the next government in the capital. Speaking on India TV, the Congress candidate from the New Delhi Assembly seat argued that while the exit polls may indicate a BJP victory, the actual scenario on the ground is much more favorable to AAP than what is being projected.
AAP's Strength Underestimated: Sandeep Dikshit
Dikshit voiced his skepticism regarding the accuracy of exit poll results, emphasizing that the public’s preferences may not be fully reflected in these predictions. He pointed out that while BJP might be the projected winner according to some exit polls, he believes AAP's position is far stronger than what the surveys suggest. "I believe AAP will form the government in Delhi," said Dikshit, referring to the strong public support the party has garnered based on its promises of free electricity, water, and cash benefits. According to him, these promises have resonated more with the electorate than traditional development issues.
Dikshit also added that exit polls are not always reliable and that he expects the real results to diverge from the predictions. He urged the public to hold off judgment until the final election results are declared on February 8, 2025, to get a true picture of the voter mandate. This marks a moment of optimism for AAP, as they are believed to have gained significant traction among Delhi’s electorate despite not being the front-runners in initial projections.
Congress's Performance in the Delhi Elections
Dikshit, who has been actively involved in the Delhi elections, also shared his thoughts on the Congress party's performance. He indicated that Congress had performed well and could secure 17-18% of the vote share in Delhi. While he acknowledged that the final results would provide a clearer picture, he expressed confidence that Congress's campaign had gained substantial support from the voters, even though the party contested independently of AAP.
“We need to assess whether we achieved this or fell short. The party fought well, but voter support must reflect in the results,” Dikshit explained. This suggests that Congress is positioning itself as a significant player in Delhi politics, potentially playing a key role in future coalitions if the elections do not yield a clear majority for any one party.
Allegations of Malpractice: Pramod Tiwari's Attack on BJP and AAP
In a parallel development, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari launched a sharp attack on both the BJP and AAP, accusing them of election malpractice. Tiwari raised concerns over allegations of cash distribution and other practices that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process. According to him, both parties have been engaged in questionable activities that raise doubts about the fairness of the election.
Tiwari further stated that he does not trust exit polls, adding that the public mandate would ultimately go against both BJP and AAP, with Congress emerging as the true winner. These allegations of election malpractice come at a time when the Delhi election has captured national attention, with major parties vying for dominance in the capital.
Final Results Awaited on February 8
The final results of the Delhi Assembly elections will be declared on February 8, 2025, and all eyes are now on whether Sandeep Dikshit’s predictions about AAP's victory will come true, or if the exit polls will be proven accurate. The stakes are high for both the BJP and AAP, as they seek to secure control over the Delhi government.
