Senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, raising concerns about the absence of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The letter has drawn political attention as Raut claims that several Rajya Sabha members have been unable to contact Dhankhar, despite repeated attempts.
In his letter, Raut sought clarity from the Home Minister on whether Dhankhar is unwell, out of the country, or facing any other issue that has kept him away from public life. He also questioned why there has been no official communication about Dhankhar’s current status.
According to Raut, the inability of Parliament members to reach a former high constitutional office bearer is unusual and concerning. “Some members of the Rajya Sabha tried to contact him but were unsuccessful. It is important for the nation to know the whereabouts of such a high-ranking former official,” he wrote.
The absence of Dhankhar, who completed his tenure recently, has triggered speculation in political circles. Some believe he may be recovering from illness or on a private trip abroad, while others suggest he might have intentionally stepped away from public engagement for personal reasons.
Political observers note that the timing of Raut’s letter coincides with heightened political activity in Parliament, with multiple contentious issues under debate. They believe this move may be part of a broader political narrative-building strategy by the opposition.
The Union Home Ministry has not yet issued an official response to Raut’s letter. If Shah chooses to respond publicly, it could either settle the speculation or fuel further political arguments, depending on the details shared.
Dhankhar, who served as Vice President from 2022 to 2025, has had a career marked by both judicial and political milestones. Prior to becoming Vice President, he was the Governor of West Bengal, where he frequently made headlines for his sharp disagreements with the state government. His tenure as Vice President was characterised by active participation in parliamentary proceedings and vocal interventions in debates.
The former Vice President’s absence from the political spotlight is particularly notable because he has historically been active in public life, even after leaving formal positions. His silence and inaccessibility now are thus out of character, prompting questions from both colleagues and political opponents.
In the coming days, political analysts expect that either an official clarification will be issued by Dhankhar himself or the matter will escalate in Parliament, with more opposition leaders joining Raut in demanding answers. Until then, the issue is likely to remain a point of speculation and political conversation, especially in media discussions.
For now, the question “Where is Jagdeep Dhankhar?” remains unanswered, with Raut’s letter adding both urgency and intrigue to the mystery. If the Home Ministry does not respond soon, this could become a larger controversy in the ongoing political discourse.
