SAP Brings AI to the Forefront with Role-Based Assistants and Business Suite Innovations
SAP has unveiled a host of AI-driven innovations in its Business Suite at the inaugural SAP Connect event, held on October 6. The highlight of the announcements is the introduction of role-based assistants in Joule, SAP’s AI copilot designed to enhance productivity and enable internal collaboration across business roles.
Each assistant in Joule is tailored to partner with humans in specific roles, orchestrating specialised agents to execute complex workflows efficiently. For instance, a People Manager Assistant can coordinate multiple agents to identify and resolve issues like compensation anomalies, significantly improving HR processes. These assistants leverage AI to allow employees to focus on insights, decision-making, and productivity, while routine operational tasks are handled by the system.
Muhammad Alam, member of the executive board of SAP SE, SAP Product & Engineering, said, “Our announcements today demonstrate the power of SAP Business Suite, where AI, data and applications come together in an experience to propel smarter decisions, faster execution and scalable transformation.” He likened the integration of business applications to the way mobile devices have brought disparate technologies together seamlessly, emphasizing that AI now enables similar efficiencies in enterprise systems.
A key enabler of SAP’s AI offerings is the SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) Connect, which securely links partner platforms and enables bidirectional flows of business-ready data across organisational and technological boundaries. Importantly, the data remains securely in SAP systems while being instantly accessible from customers’ existing platforms, preserving business context and mitigating the risks of data duplication.
Thomas Pfiester, head of SAP’s Global Customer Engagement and Services, explained to The Hindu, “We follow all required global data standards. Earlier, data had to be copied out of SAP systems, which raised security concerns. With BDC Connect, partners like Databricks and Google Query can access data without copying it, ensuring security and business integrity.”
The innovations extend beyond AI assistants and secure data access. SAP also highlighted supply chain software capable of anticipating disruptions, expanding the reach of AI across operations. By integrating AI, data, and applications, SAP aims to enable smarter decision-making, faster execution, and scalable transformation across enterprise systems, reinforcing its leadership in ERP and business technology solutions.
These developments signal SAP’s focus on role-specific AI tools, ensuring that every business function—from HR to supply chain management—can leverage AI for improved efficiency and strategic decision-making. The company’s investment in AI and integrated data ecosystems demonstrates its commitment to helping organisations unlock new levels of insight, collaboration, and operational excellence in the digital age.
