Seema Haidar, a Pakistani woman who crossed borders for love, is once again in the news — this time over allegations linking her to the tragic Pahalgam terror attack. However, her lawyer, AP Singh, has firmly denied any such connection, urging the public and authorities not to target her unfairly during the current diplomatic and security tensions between India and Pakistan.
Lawyer Defends Seema Against Terror Links
In a video statement released by news agency ANI, advocate AP Singh strongly dismissed claims or suspicions that Seema Haidar had any involvement or connection with the Pahalgam terror attack, which recently rocked the nation and claimed the lives of 26 people, including tourists and foreign nationals.
He emphasized that Seema has no criminal background and no links to terrorism, and appealed to people to stop associating her with the tragedy. “Seema has never visited any place other than her in-laws' home or hospital,” Singh said, clarifying that her entire stay in India has been uneventful and without any suspicious activity.
From Pakistan to India: A Love Story Beyond Borders
Seema’s journey began when she was still in Pakistan. Following her father's death and a divorce, she connected online with Sachin Meena, a man from Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Their bond grew stronger, and the couple eventually travelled to Nepal, where they reportedly got married under Sanatana Dharma rituals.
Later, Seema illegally crossed into India via Nepal, where she began residing with Sachin’s family. Her conversion to Hinduism, her marriage, and the birth of their daughter Bharti Meena have all been documented and submitted to Indian authorities, including the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).
Conversion to Hinduism and Legal Documentation
AP Singh highlighted that Seema had legally adopted Hinduism, converting to Sanatana Dharma before her marriage to Sachin. “Their daughter’s name is Meera,” he said, symbolizing her full integration into Indian cultural and religious identity.
He further stated that all necessary documents regarding her identity, conversion, and marriage have been handed over to the authorities, and nothing in her past suggests any ties to terrorism or any anti-national activity.
Government Action Against Pakistani Nationals
The renewed scrutiny of Seema Haidar comes in the backdrop of the Indian government’s stringent measures against Pakistani nationals following the Pahalgam terror incident. The Centre has ordered all Pakistani nationals residing in India to return to Pakistan immediately. Additionally, India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty, which has been a historic point of cooperation between the two countries.
Seema’s name resurfaced during these sweeping actions, raising concerns about her status and future in India.
Public Appeal by Seema to Remain in India
In a recent emotional video appeal, Seema Haidar addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, requesting them to allow her to remain in India.
“I do not want to go to Pakistan. I am now India’s daughter-in-law, and I have adopted the country as my own,” she said. She added that she has married an Indian citizen and started a family, and leaving India would mean destroying that family.
Legal Grounds for Seema's Stay in India
Supporting Seema’s position, lawyer AP Singh stated that Seema is no longer a Pakistani national in spirit or social reality, even if her formal citizenship has not yet changed. “Her citizenship is now connected with her Indian husband, and therefore, the Centre’s directive should not apply to her,” he said in a statement to PTI.
Singh insists that marriage and family ties within India make her eligible for legal protection, and she should not be considered under the same category as other Pakistani nationals without familial ties in India.
Media and Public Reaction
The media coverage of Seema’s case has stirred a mixed reaction. While some sympathize with her struggle and her transformation, others remain skeptical, especially in light of the current national security situation.
Social media platforms are witnessing debates where people question whether love justifies illegal entry into the country, while others believe that Seema should be judged based on her present conduct and not her nationality at birth.
Conclusion: A Delicate Balance Between Love and Law
Seema Haidar’s story sits at the crossroads of love, law, religion, and international conflict. While her supporters argue she is being unfairly targeted due to her nationality, others call for strict enforcement of immigration laws.
The Indian government now faces the complex task of balancing national security concerns with humanitarian and legal considerations, especially as tensions between India and Pakistan escalate following the Pahalgam attack.
