Prashanth Nair (40), Senior Sales and Marketing Manager at Lenovo, was found dead at his residence in Chikkabanavara on Sunday, as per reports from India Today.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the corporate and tech circles, particularly because this follows a disturbing pattern of deaths involving tech professionals in the city over recent months.

Background: A Promising Career and a Troubled Marriage

Prashanth Nair had a high-ranking role at Lenovo, one of the world’s top technology companies. He lived in Chikkabanavara, Bengaluru, with his wife Pooja Nair, an employee at Dell, and their eight-year-old daughter. However, not everything was smooth at the home front.

According to his father, M N Kutty, Prashanth and his wife had long-standing marital issues and had been living separately for some time. This domestic discord appears to have played a significant role in the unfortunate event.

The Events Leading to the Discovery

Kutty, in his complaint to the Soladevanahalli Police, detailed how he had attempted to reach his son several times after an argument occurred between Prashanth and his estranged wife on Friday. When the calls went unanswered, the concerned father visited Prashanth’s apartment, only to find him hanging from the ceiling fan.

Police have since registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and an investigation is underway. As of now, no foul play has been suspected, but officials are delving deeper into the circumstances that led to the suicide.

Not an Isolated Case: A Series of Tech-Related Suicides in Bengaluru

Prashanth’s death is not an isolated event. Bengaluru has seen a concerning rise in suicide cases among tech professionals, hinting at deeper societal and mental health challenges faced by the sector’s workforce.

In January, Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old techie from Uttar Pradesh, also died by suicide at his Bengaluru residence. In a shocking revelation, he left behind a 24-page handwritten note and a 1.5-hour long video, alleging harassment by his estranged wife and her family. His home had a placard that read: “Justice is Due.”

Just a couple of weeks ago, on March 28, another horrifying case emerged in the city. A techie allegedly murdered his wife, placed her body inside a suitcase, and fled to Pune. According to the police, the wife’s unemployment status led to domestic conflict and eventually, the heinous crime.

Pressure, Isolation, and Relationship Strains in the Tech World

These tragedies draw attention to the mounting stress, isolation, and domestic challenges tech professionals are facing. While corporate careers may offer high salaries and international opportunities, the mental health struggles behind closed doors remain under-addressed.

Prashanth Nair’s case highlights the devastating impact of unresolved marital issues, especially when left unsupported by counseling or family mediation. With a young child also involved, the emotional consequences of such an incident ripple far beyond just the immediate tragedy.

Legal and Police Proceedings

The Soladevanahalli Police Station has taken over the investigation. An Unnatural Death Report (UDR) under Section 174 of the CrPC has been filed. While the police await post-mortem results and will likely examine phone records, conversations, and recent disputes, the investigation remains in its early stages.

Authorities are also expected to question close friends, neighbors, and family members to get a better picture of Prashanth’s mental state and any contributing factors.
