Congress MP Shashi Tharoor delivered a powerful and unequivocal message to Pakistan regarding cross-border terrorism during his visit to Georgetown, Guyana. Speaking on May 25, 2025, Tharoor made it clear that India would never tolerate acts of terror against its civilians and that perpetrators, along with those who finance and support them, will face justice without impunity.

Leading a multi-party delegation aimed at informing the international community about India’s firm stance on terrorism backed by Pakistan, Tharoor emphasised the need to confront terrorism at all levels. “We have to stand against terrorism wherever it comes,” he said, adding, “We must not only bring the evil killers to justice but also seriously challenge those financing, training, and equipping them to carry out these attacks.”

India has suffered from terrorism for over four decades, and according to Tharoor, the nation now possesses a “resolved determination” in its fight against these threats. He warned that any attempts to cross borders to harm civilians will be met with firm consequences. “We will never let anybody believe they can just walk across the border and kill our civilians or kill anybody in our country and get away with impunity,” he asserted. The message from India, he stated, is that “there is a price to be paid” for such acts of terror, signalling a shift towards a new normal in counter-terrorism measures.

Tharoor also urged the Indian diaspora in Guyana to stand united in support of India’s efforts against terrorism. He called for strength, resolve, and solidarity, highlighting that the delegation’s trip aims to amplify India’s voice globally and rally international support. “We are seeking all of you to join us in expressing support, in strength, in resolve, and in response to this kind of action if it happens again in the future,” he said.

The multi-party delegation accompanying Tharoor includes prominent members from various political parties, such as Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayagi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, and Bhubaneswar K Lata (BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), along with former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

This diplomatic outreach reflects India’s broader strategy to expose and counteract Pakistan’s sponsorship of terrorism on international platforms while reaffirming India’s commitment to protect its citizens and uphold justice.
