The ChipIN Centre, one of the largest facilities at C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing), plays a pivotal role in strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem. By providing access to cutting-edge Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, it supports academic institutions and entrepreneurs involved in semiconductor chip design. The centre caters to the entire chip design cycle, covering design workflows up to 5 nm nodes, and offers infrastructure for chip fabrication at the SCL foundry and packaging. Through initiatives like the Chips to Start-up (C2S) Programme and Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the ChipIN Centre is helping India become Atmanirbhar Bharat, or self-reliant in semiconductor technology.

Since its inception, the ChipIN Centre has supported over 20,000 students across more than 250 academic institutions and 45 start-up projects. Its ambition is to empower 85,000 students in the next five years, ensuring India has a future-ready workforce capable of designing the next-generation semiconductor chips.

To meet the growing demand, Siemens has significantly expanded its contribution to the C2S Programme by increasing its EDA tool access from 120 colleges to 250+ institutions. Siemens has also extended its Veloce™ hardware-assisted verification solution to DLI-approved companies, making a critical impact in the country’s semiconductor development. The Veloce platform, including Veloce Strato hardware, Veloce Apps, and Veloce Protocol Solutions, provides powerful computing resources, with 128 CPU cores and 640 million gates, enabling high-quality verification of complex System-on-Chip (SoC) and Integrated Circuit (IC) designs.

This collaboration between the ChipIN Centre and Siemens is a key driver in India’s commitment to building a self-sustaining semiconductor ecosystem, positioning the country as a global leader in the semiconductor industry.
