The company's stock has already dropped by approximately 48 percent this year. To counteract this trend, Snapchat is set to introduce two new ad formats. These include ads in the chat inbox and on Snapchat's map feature, which allows users to view real-time locations of friends. This move marks the first attempt to monetize the popular maps feature, potentially opening new avenues for revenue generation.
Focus on Augmented Reality
In line with its revamped strategy, Snapchat is investing heavily in augmented reality (AR). Spiegel emphasized the company's commitment to AR, stating, "We are investing in creating augmented reality glasses that allow people to interact with computing, the world, and one another in totally new ways."
