Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. (Sona Comstar), a renowned mobility technology provider for electrified and non-electrified powertrain components, has declared its Q4 and FY25 financial results, posting its highest-ever quarterly net profit of ₹164 crore, up 10% year-on-year. Despite a 2% dip in revenue, the company's strong performance was fueled by growing contributions from its Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) segment and large new EV order wins.
Q4 FY25 Financial Performance: Strong Profit Despite Revenue Dip
Sona BLW reported quarterly revenue of ₹868 crore, slightly down by 2% YoY, mainly due to model transitions at a key client. However, the company's EBITDA stood at ₹235 crore, with a robust margin of 27.1%, reflecting operational efficiency.
The Profit After Tax (PAT) rose 10% YoY to ₹164 crore, marking a record profit for any quarter in the company’s history. The net profit margin improved to 18.8%, a significant achievement amid market challenges.
FY25 Full-Year Highlights: Robust Growth in Profit and BEV Segment
For the full fiscal year FY25, Sona BLW recorded revenue of ₹3,555 crore, representing a 12% growth over FY24. The BEV revenue share grew from 29% to 36% YoY, supported by a 38% increase in BEV revenue.
EBITDA reached ₹975 crore with a margin of 27.4%, while PAT grew 16% YoY to ₹601 crore, further demonstrating the company’s strong financial resilience and strategic focus on EVs.
BEV Segment: Major Growth Driver
BEV revenue hit ₹294 crore in Q4, registering an 8% YoY increase and comprising 35% of total quarterly revenue. The annual BEV revenue share reached 36%, up from 29% in the previous year.
This segment's performance is backed by continued demand for electric mobility, and Sona Comstar’s strategic positioning as a key supplier of electric drivetrain components to global OEMs.
Record Order Book: EV Programs Dominate
The company closed FY25 with an all-time high net order book of ₹24,200 crore, up significantly from previous levels. EV programs contributed 77% to this order book, indicating strong demand visibility.
In Q4 alone, the company added orders worth ₹16.3 billion, including:
-
₹15.2 billion order from a North American EV OEM for rotor-embedded differential sub-assembly and epicyclic geartrain. Production is set to begin in Q4 FY26.
-
₹1.1 billion order from a global commercial vehicle OEM for its newly launched Steering Bevel Box, with production expected in Q3 FY26.
These wins reflect the trust Sona BLW enjoys among global automakers and the growing importance of its product portfolio in next-generation electric vehicles.
Product Innovation: Launch of Steering Bevel Box
Sona Comstar has commercialized a new product – the Steering Bevel Box, used in commercial vehicle steering systems. This new addition expands Sona’s capabilities beyond driveline solutions, marking its entry into adjacent component categories and reinforcing its engineering and machining expertise.
The company developed this product in-house and already secured an order from a leading global OEM, with production set to commence in FY26.
Strategic Vision: Focus on Future Technologies
Looking ahead, Sona BLW is actively working on advanced applications, particularly in the space of humanoid robots. With developments in AI, 3D perception, control systems, and lowering compute costs, humanoid robotics is seen as a major growth area.
Sona Comstar aims to become a key supplier of components and subsystems for these robots, utilizing its core capabilities in gears, motors, sensors, controllers, embedded hardware, and software. This is in line with the company's long-term strategy to diversify beyond the auto industry and tap into emerging technology markets.
Leadership Commentary: A Future-Forward Outlook
Mr. Vivek Vikram Singh, MD & Group CEO of Sona BLW, expressed confidence in the company’s trajectory, saying:
“Despite a temporary revenue drop due to model transition, we closed the quarter with record profitability. Our BEV business is growing rapidly, and with new product launches and orders, our order book is at an all-time high. We are also venturing into new areas like humanoid robots by leveraging our core strengths.”
Operational Excellence and Customer Expansion
During FY25, Sona Comstar:
-
Added four new EV programs, bringing the total to 58 programs across 32 customers
-
Continued to supply mission-critical components to top global OEMs
-
Strengthened its manufacturing capabilities to support ramp-up of new orders in upcoming quarters
Future Outlook: Positive Momentum
With continued focus on electrification, diversification, and innovation, Sona BLW is well-positioned for sustained growth. Its record order book, rising BEV revenue share, and expansion into new product categories are likely to drive performance in FY26 and beyond.
