Indian stock market to remain shut on Monday (April 14) and Friday (April 18) due to Ambedkar Jayanti and Good Friday, respectively.
-
Trading in equity, currency, and commodity derivatives segments will be suspended during these holidays as per BSE & NSE holiday list.
-
Despite a truncated week, Nifty 50 closed above 22,800, driven by positive global cues and tariff relief from the US administration.
In a truncated week ahead, Dalal Street investors will have to deal with two stock market holidays next week. According to the BSE’s stock market holidays 2025 list, the Indian stock market will remain closed on Monday, April 14, 2025, to observe Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti. Similarly, the market will be closed on Friday, April 18, 2025, for Good Friday.
These closures mean that no trading activity will take place at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on these days. However, it’s essential to note that trading in the Currency Derivatives Segments will also remain suspended on these dates.
Despite these holidays, there will be exceptions. For instance, while the morning sessions will be suspended on both days, trading will continue in the evening shift. This allows investors to resume activity after 5:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2025, even though the day’s morning session is closed.
Additionally, trading in Commodity Derivatives and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) will be suspended from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the morning session on Monday and Friday. The evening session will remain operational, ensuring that traders can adjust their positions or make new investments after market hours.

Positive Market Sentiments Amid Tariff Shift
The stock market has shown a bullish trend in recent days, driven by positive global sentiment after US President Donald Trump announced a 90-day tariff pause. This announcement led to a surge in Indian stock indices on Friday, April 11, 2025. The Nifty 50 index rose significantly by 429 points, closing at 22,828, while the BSE Sensex surged by 1,310 points to close at 75,157.
Bank Nifty also had a gap-up opening, gaining 750 points, reflecting overall positive market momentum. With two holidays in the upcoming week, market participants will be looking forward to continued bullish trends once trading resumes.
This week’s stock market holidays will not only provide some respite but also serve as a reminder for investors to stay informed about market events, as trading holidays can impact market liquidity and volatility.
