Suzlon, a leader in renewable energy solutions, and Jindal Renewables, through its subsidiary JSP Green Wind 1 Pvt. Ltd., have deepened their partnership by signing an additional 302.4 MW wind power project in Karnataka. This initiative aligns with India’s goal of achieving 50% electricity generation from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 and is a significant step towards decarbonizing steel production.
This second project increases the total capacity to 702.4 MW, making it Suzlon's largest-ever commercial and industrial (C&I) order from a single customer. Last month, Jindal Renewables had partnered with Suzlon for a 400 MW captive wind power project in the Koppal region. The combined capacity reflects a strategic collaboration that enhances operational sustainability and accelerates India's renewable energy transition.
Key Features of the Agreement
- Suzlon will deliver 96 advanced S144 wind turbine generators (WTGs), equipped with Hybrid Lattice (HLT) Towers. Each turbine is rated at 3.15 MW capacity, ensuring high efficiency and reliability.
- The energy generated will be utilized for captive consumption in steel plants located in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, contributing to the green steel production initiative.
- With this deal, Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers account for 56% of Suzlon’s record 5.4 GW order book, a historic milestone for the company.
Commitment to Sustainability
Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, emphasized, "This collaboration strengthens our partnership with Jindal Renewables and propels the green steel mission forward. We remain committed to supporting India’s ambitious renewable energy targets."
Bharat Saxena, President of Jindal Renewables, stated, "This project aligns with our dedication to sustainability and decarbonization in the steel industry. Renewable energy is the cornerstone of our strategy, and this partnership with Suzlon is only the beginning."
JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, added, "Transforming hard-to-abate sectors like steel into models of sustainable growth is vital. This project highlights how industries can meet economic and environmental goals through innovation."
Impact on India's Renewable Energy Sector
The Suzlon-Jindal collaboration sets a benchmark for integrating renewable energy into industrial operations, particularly in hard-to-decarbonize sectors like steel. The project demonstrates the potential of wind energy in reducing carbon footprints and encourages other industries to explore renewable energy solutions.
Suzlon’s record-breaking order book of 5.4 GW highlights its growing influence in India’s renewable energy landscape. Its cutting-edge S144 WTGs with HLT Towers signify advancements in wind energy technology that cater to the unique needs of large-scale industrial operations.
Encouraging Green Investments
This project underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving India’s green energy objectives. By prioritizing renewable energy, Jindal Renewables and Suzlon are leading the way for sustainable development in heavy industries.
