Tata Communications Limited has announced the selection of Mr. Ganesh Lakshminarayanan as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (Designate), marking a major leadership transition for the global digital ecosystem enabler. The announcement was made following a meeting of the company’s Board of Directors on January 21, 2026, based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee. The appointment is subject to receipt of regulatory approvals, after which Ganesh will formally take over as MD & CEO, succeeding Mr. A. S. Lakshminarayanan, who retires on April 13, 2026.

Ganesh Lakshminarayanan brings over 30 years of international management experience spanning multinational corporations, B2B start-ups, and Indian enterprises. Most recently, he served as MD and Group Vice President for ServiceNow India and SAARC, driving market growth and enterprise adoption of AI-driven digital transformation solutions.
Before ServiceNow, Ganesh was the CEO of Airtel Business in India and previously led Airtel’s Enterprise Business Unit, which under his leadership achieved 50% growth over three years and increased market share from 30% to 33%. During this period, the business unit received the Chairman’s Award for Best BU in FY23, reflecting his operational and strategic excellence.
Earlier in his career, Ganesh played a pivotal role in India’s start-up ecosystem, advising Sequoia Capital portfolio companies, including Mu Sigma, Capillary Technologies, and Practo, and serving in leadership roles such as COO of Capillary Technologies and Chief Delivery Officer at Mu Sigma.
Ganesh also held key leadership positions at Dell, where he was instrumental in establishing Dell’s operations in India, scaling the workforce to 15,000 employees by 2011, and driving the company’s domestic market growth to a billion-dollar enterprise. His roles at Dell included President and MD of Dell India, leading global consumer and SMB services, and overseeing Asia Pacific and Japan sales operations.
Academically, Ganesh holds an MBA with high distinction from the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a BS in Computer Science and Engineering from Guindy Engineering College, Chennai, where he graduated as a gold medalist. He has also been elected twice to the NASSCOM Executive Council, served on the FICCI Council, and is a founding member of Social Venture Partners Bengaluru.
