The 16-day march aims to cover more than 1,300 km and raise awareness against the ‘vote chori’ allegations ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections
Expelled RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav has launched a sharp attack on his brother Tejashwi Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over their ongoing ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, alleging that the protest march is turning into a platform for political disorder rather than a legitimate movement to safeguard democracy.
Tej Pratap claimed that during the Day 2 leg of the yatra in Nabinagar (Aurangabad district), MLA Vijay Kumar Singh’s driver and a local journalist were allegedly assaulted by individuals accompanying the march.
Sharing a video of the incident on X (formerly Twitter), Tej Pratap wrote:
“I can’t understand whether Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav have set out to save democracy or to tear it apart. The way the driver and a media journalist brother were beaten and abused by Jaychands in Nabinagar is extremely wrong and shameful.”
He further warned his brother Tejashwi to be cautious of those around him, adding that ignoring such behaviour could lead to “very bad results” in the upcoming elections.
What Is the Voter Adhikar Yatra?
The Voter Adhikar Yatra began on Sunday from Sasaram and is scheduled to run for 16 days, covering over 20 districts and more than 1,300 kilometres before culminating in Patna on September 1.
Led by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, the yatra protests against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, accusing the BJP of planning “vote chori” (voter fraud) ahead of the state elections.
Congress leaders describe the march as an effort to raise awareness among common people and ensure that their right to vote is protected.
RJD Family Rift Widens
Tej Pratap’s comments have once again highlighted the internal discord within the RJD. While Tejashwi leads the Opposition alliance in the state and marches alongside national leaders, Tej Pratap has been holding separate public meetings and rallies in various constituencies.
His most recent public meeting was held in Mahua on Sunday, where he openly criticised the party leadership and called for “clean politics rooted in justice.”
Political Significance
Political observers see Tej Pratap’s remarks as a setback for Opposition unity in Bihar, especially as the 2025 Assembly elections draw closer. The yatra was planned as a show of strength by the INDIA bloc, but growing infighting could undercut the message of democratic solidarity it hopes to project.
Meanwhile, the yatra moves into Day 3 today, starting from Navada and moving toward Bar Bigha via Nalanda, with both Rahul and Tejashwi scheduled to address public meetings and interact with local residents.
