The RJD leader demanded accountability from the Election Commission, questioning the legality and transparency of the SIR system.
Patna, July 9, 2025: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing it of “forgery in the name of SIR” during the ongoing voter list revision campaign in Bihar.
Raising serious questions about the Standardised Information Register (SIR) system reportedly used in the 2025 voter revision drive, Tejashwi claimed the entire process is plagued by disorder, chaos and unconstitutional practices that threaten the very foundations of democracy.
“What is this SIR? On whose orders is it being implemented? It seems to be a tool for large-scale forgery in the voter lists. This unconstitutional process is highly condemnable and dangerous for our democracy,” he said in a statement posted on social media.
Tejashwi Yadav accused the ECI of failing to ensure transparency and accountability in the voter revision exercise, alleging that thousands of genuine voters were being arbitrarily excluded while fake entries were being added.
He claimed that local officials were acting without clear guidelines and that complaints from voters about errors and omissions were being ignored.
“Instead of strengthening democracy, this revision campaign is designed to sabotage it. The Election Commission must answer for this mess,” Tejashwi added.
The ECI has not officially responded to these allegations so far. However, officials involved in the revision process have maintained that the campaign is being conducted according to established rules and that any errors can be rectified through claims and objections.
The controversy threatens to intensify the political battle in Bihar ahead of future elections, with opposition parties accusing the BJP-led Centre of attempting to manipulate electoral rolls in its favour.
