As Bihar prepares for the 2025 Assembly elections, a crucial meeting of the INDIA alliance parties is set to take place today in Patna. This meeting is expected to be a turning point in the political landscape of the state, as the alliance is likely to announce Tejashwi Yadav as their chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections. The meeting, which will be held at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) office at 1 pm, is anticipated to bring clarity on the Grand Alliance's strategy for the crucial electoral battle.
From the RJD, Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in Bihar, will be present, alongside prominent figures such as MPs Manoj Jha and Sanjay Yadav. The Congress party will be represented by Krishna Allavaru, the Bihar in-charge, and Rajesh Ram, the State Congress President. Key leaders from the Left parties, including CPI(ML), CPI, and CPI(M), will also attend the discussions. Additionally, VIP leaders such as Mukesh Sahni and national spokesperson Devjyoti are expected to participate.
According to sources, the INDIA bloc is likely to settle on Tejashwi Yadav as the face of the Grand Alliance for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. This would mark a significant step in their electoral strategy, especially as the political landscape in Bihar continues to evolve.
The current term of the Nitish Kumar-led government is set to expire on November 22, 2025, and the Election Commission has already begun preparing for the polls. The NDA alliance, which includes the BJP and Janata Dal-United (JDU), has confirmed that Nitish Kumar will continue as their leader for the upcoming elections, despite ongoing concerns regarding his health. This has led to speculation about a possible shift in leadership, especially considering the BJP's ambitions to take a more prominent role, similar to developments in Maharashtra.
In the 2020 Assembly elections, RJD emerged as the largest party with 75 seats, followed closely by the BJP (74 seats) and JDU (49 seats). Despite RJD’s strong performance, the NDA managed to form the government with Nitish Kumar at the helm, after a shifting political dynamic. Nitish Kumar eventually rejoined the BJP-led alliance, reinforcing his commitment to the NDA. The 2020 election results are expected to influence the seat-sharing arrangements and strategies for the upcoming 2025 elections.
As political parties continue to gear up for the next round of polls, all eyes are now on the INDIA alliance’s decision today, which could signal a major shift in Bihar politics. With Tejashwi Yadav likely to be named the CM candidate, the opposition is preparing for a high-stakes contest against Nitish Kumar and the NDA. The coming days will be critical as the election campaign intensifies.
