Thermax has won a Rs. 516 crore order for two 550 TPH CFBC boilers in Botswana.
This is part of the second phase of a 600 MW energy project led by Jindal Energy Botswana Pty Ltd.
The project will supply power to the national utility grid, enhancing energy security in Southern Africa.
In a significant development, Thermax Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary Thermax Babcock & Wilcox Energy Solutions Limited (TBWES), has secured a repeat order valued at Rs. 516 crore. This contract involves the supply of two 550 TPH Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion (CFBC) boilers for the second phase of a 600 MW greenfield energy project in Botswana, Southern Africa. The order was awarded by Jindal Energy Botswana Pty Ltd, a major industrial conglomerate in the region.
Thermax has played a key role in the first phase of this energy project, and being entrusted with the second phase reflects the customer’s confidence in Thermax’s capabilities. The scope of this project includes the complete designing, engineering, manufacturing, testing, and supply of the CFBC boilers, along with supervision of erection, commissioning, and performance testing. The project delivery period is 25.5 months, during which TBWES will oversee every aspect, ensuring the highest level of efficiency and environmental performance.
This order further cements Thermax's position as a leading player in the global energy sector, especially in Southern Africa, where the project is expected to supply power to the national utility grid, enhancing energy security for the region.
Commenting on the achievement, Ashish Bhandari, Managing Director and CEO of Thermax, said, "This repeat order underscores the trust our client has placed in our technological prowess and project execution capabilities. We are proud to contribute to Botswana’s energy infrastructure and look forward to setting new standards in efficiency and sustainability for power generation projects."
The project aligns with Thermax’s core mission of delivering world-class energy solutions that contribute to environmental sustainability. The CFBC technology is especially suited for clean energy generation, as it allows for the efficient combustion of various solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels while significantly reducing carbon emissions. This technology also enhances waste heat recovery, making the process not only cost-effective but also environmentally responsible.
For the uninitiated, CFBC boilers are highly regarded for their low emissions, particularly of nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide, which are harmful pollutants. These boilers offer a more sustainable approach to power generation compared to conventional methods, making them an excellent choice for large-scale energy projects such as this.
Thermax Babcock & Wilcox Energy Solutions Limited (TBWES) specializes in providing a range of energy solutions, including steam generation for both process and power applications. These solutions utilize waste heat recovery from turbines, engines, and industrial processes. Beyond boilers, TBWES also offers various heaters for chemical, petrochemical, and refinery sectors, along with a comprehensive range of renovation and modernization services for older equipment.
For those following developments in the energy and industrial sectors, this project in Botswana is a clear indicator of Thermax’s growing influence in the global energy market. The company's expertise in executing large, complex projects with a strong focus on efficiency and sustainability positions it as a trusted partner for industries worldwide.
