On Thursday morning, three terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter took place during a cordon and search operation launched in Nadir village of Tral, a region in South Kashmir known for militant activity.

The security forces, acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of 2 to 3 terrorists, quickly mobilized to isolate and neutralize the threat. However, as the operation progressed, forces speculated that the number of militants hiding in the area might be more than initially reported, and the search is still ongoing.

The terrorists killed in the encounter have been identified as:

• Asif Ahmed Sheikh (28): Serving as the district commander of JeM in Awantipora, Asif has been involved in multiple terrorist activities since 2022.

• Aamir Nazir Wani (20): An active militant in Pulwama linked to JeM since 2024.

• Yawar Ahmed Bhat: Another active JeM operative in Pulwama since 2024.

This operation marks the second encounter in Jammu and Kashmir within 48 hours, highlighting the continued efforts by security forces to eliminate terrorism in the region.

In a related development, on Tuesday, three terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed during a gunfight in the forested area of Shukroo Keller in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. Based on precise intelligence about the presence of militants, the Indian Army launched Operation Keller, which turned into an encounter when the terrorists opened fire on the troops. The Indian Army retaliated decisively, resulting in the neutralization of the terrorists.

These coordinated operations reflect the enhanced vigilance and operational readiness of Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, especially following recent terror incidents such as the Pahalgam attack. The proactive measures taken by the forces are aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure and preventing further violence in the sensitive region.

The encounters underline the serious security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir and demonstrate the Indian Army’s commitment to countering terrorism with precision and resolve. The operations have also been part of a broader strategic response following Operation Sindoor, where the Indian Armed Forces launched retaliatory strikes against terror camps and infrastructure across the Line of Control.

Security forces continue to conduct search and clearance operations in affected areas, maintaining a high alert status to prevent infiltration and terrorist regrouping.
