In a tragic incident on Tuesday, a vehicle engaged in election duty met with a fatal accident in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving another injured. According to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Reasi Vishesh Mahajan, the accident occurred near Tuksan in the Gulabgarh area, just a day before the crucial polling for the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are being conducted in three phases for a total of 90 seats. The second phase, which includes 26 constituencies such as Reasi, is scheduled for September 25. This election cycle is significant as it marks the first elections in the union territory in nearly a decade, with a total of 219 candidates vying for seats, including 90 independents. Earlier, on September 20, another tragic accident occurred involving a bus transporting Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on election duty. The bus met with an accident in the Brell Waterhail area of Budgam district, leading to the deaths of three BSF jawans and injuries to 32 others. The bus, which was escorting the jawans, slipped off a hilly road and fell into a gorge, highlighting the dangers associated with election duty in this region. Among the injured, six individuals sustained serious injuries, and the civilian driver of the bus also suffered injuries.

As the Jammu and Kashmir elections unfold, it is crucial to acknowledge the risks that those on election duty face.
