What's covered under the article:

  1. Trump announced a task force to address alleged anti-Christian bias in US federal agencies.
  2. The initiative, led by Pam Bondi, will combat discrimination and protect Christian rights.
  3. Trump also created a White House faith office to support religious organizations.

In a significant move aimed at protecting religious freedom in the United States, former President Donald Trump announced the formation of a new task force to investigate and combat anti-Christian bias within US government agencies.

The announcement came during his participation in the National Prayer Breakfast, a long-standing Washington tradition where he emphasized the need to defend Christian rights and restore religious liberty. Trump also revealed that Attorney General Pam Bondi would lead the initiative, which will focus on investigating federal agencies, including the Department of Justice, IRS, and FBI, for any alleged discrimination against Christians.

Task Force to Address Christian Discrimination

Trump’s executive order instructs the task force to identify and eliminate unlawful practices within executive departments that may be targeting Christians. The team will also prosecute cases of anti-Christian violence and vandalism, ensuring greater protections for faith-based communities across the nation.

During his address, Trump stressed that this initiative was essential, stating:
"We must bring God back into our lives. My faith was strengthened following the 2024 assassination attempt, and I will always stand for religious liberty."

The former president also took a partisan stance, criticizing the Biden administration for what he described as a lack of commitment to protecting religious freedom, particularly concerning anti-abortion advocates and faith-based organizations.

Mixed Reactions from Religious and Civil Rights Groups

Trump’s announcement has sparked debate among religious and civil rights groups.

  • Conservative organizations, including the First Liberty Institute, praised the move, emphasizing that Christian rights have been under threat in recent years.
  • On the other hand, critics, including Rachel Laser of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, warned that the task force could be used to justify discrimination and potentially undermine civil rights protections.
  • Religious leaders such as Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush accused Trump of hypocrisy, citing his administration’s past policies that have been hostile toward some religious groups.

White House Faith Office Led by Paula White-Cain

Alongside the task force, Trump also announced the creation of a White House faith office, to be led by Paula White-Cain, a well-known evangelical pastor and Trump spiritual advisor. The office will focus on advising faith-based organizations on how to partner with the federal government on religious initiatives.

While Trump’s latest move resonates with his conservative Christian base, it also raises questions about the separation of church and state. As the 2024 election cycle progresses, his strong stance on religious liberty is expected to remain a central theme in his campaign.
