At the Egypt-hosted Gaza Peace Summit 2025, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about India-Pakistan relations while engaging with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, remarking, “I think Pakistan and India are going to live very nicely together.” Sharif’s broad smile highlighted a moment of diplomatic significance, demonstrating the importance of dialogue in South Asia.

Trump also lauded Pakistan’s leadership, calling military chief Asif Munir his "favorite field marshal from Pakistan," and invited Sharif to address the summit, highlighting Pakistan’s potential role in promoting regional stability in the Middle East.

The backdrop of this summit includes recent escalations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, following the Pahalgam incident in which terrorists attacked Indian security forces. India responded with Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist hideouts, which led to further cross-border clashes and increased tensions between the two nations. These developments drew international concern and calls for restraint.

India’s participation at the summit was led by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, representing Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Singh met with President Trump to discuss India’s commitment to peace initiatives and humanitarian assistance in Gaza, affirming India’s support for the landmark Peace Agreement and expressing hope for lasting regional peace.

Other notable moments during the summit included a viral video of Trump shaking hands with the UAE representative, remarking, “A lot of cash. Unlimited cash,” which attracted global attention and sparked mixed reactions online.

Co-hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi and President Trump, the summit brought together world leaders to discuss ceasefire measures, humanitarian aid, and long-term peace frameworks in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. President El-Sissi described Trump’s Mideast peace plan as the “last chance” for peace and reaffirmed support for a two-state solution, upholding Palestinians’ right to an independent state alongside Israel.

In recognition of his efforts at the summit, President Trump was awarded the Order of the Nile, Egypt’s highest civilian honour. The event underscored optimism for regional cooperation, dialogue, and frameworks for lasting peace in the Middle East, with India actively supporting diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives.
