In a significant military response, Turkey has launched air strikes against positions of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Iraq and northern Syria. This action follows a deadly attack on an airline at the Turkish Space Agency (TUSAS) headquarters near Ankara, which resulted in at least six fatalities and 22 injuries. The Turkish Defense Ministry described these air strikes as a part of their revenge schemes against those responsible for the heinous attack.
On Wednesday, at around 3.30 PM local time, two terrorists executed an assault at TUSAS, leading to a scene filled with smoke, fire, and gunshots. Security footage captured a man and a woman armed and engaged in the attack. Although no group has claimed responsibility for the violence yet, Turkish officials, including Interior Minister Yerlikaya, have suggested that the PKK may be linked to this incident, as they have a long-standing history of rebellion against the Turkish government.
The attack has drawn global condemnation from various leaders. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reiterating support for Turkey in the face of terrorism. Similarly, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte voiced solidarity with Turkey, emphasizing NATO's commitment to assist its member nations against terrorist threats.
In light of the violence, Turkish forces remain vigilant and prepared for further actions against PKK elements. The Turkish government is determined to eliminate the threats posed by such terrorist organizations, ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
