The woman, aged 28, arrived at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, on May 23 after travelling from a region reportedly affected by Ebola. Following her arrival, she was immediately monitored by airport health authorities due to international health alert protocols.

Immediate Isolation After Arrival

After landing in Bengaluru, the woman was initially staying in a hotel but was later shifted to a designated medical facility after she reportedly developed mild symptoms such as body aches. Given her travel history and symptoms, authorities decided to isolate her as a precautionary step.

She was subsequently moved to the Epidemic Diseases Hospital in Indira Nagar, a facility designated for handling infectious disease cases.

Medical teams have been closely monitoring her condition, and infection control protocols have been strictly implemented.

Samples Sent for Ebola Testing

As part of the standard procedure, her medical samples were collected and sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune for Ebola testing. Health officials have stated that test results are awaited and a repeat test will also be conducted as per protocol.

At present, her condition is reported to be stable, and doctors are observing her for any progression of symptoms.

In response to the global situation, the Karnataka Health Department issued guidelines advising individuals who have recently travelled from Ebola-affected countries to:

• Self-monitor for 21 days
• Report any symptoms immediately to health authorities
• Seek medical attention if fever, body ache, or related symptoms appear

Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) have also been activated to monitor and respond to suspected cases across the state.

Authorities in Karnataka have designated specific hospitals for handling suspected infectious disease cases:

In Bengaluru:

• Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) has been identified as an isolation centre
• Epidemic Diseases Hospital, Indira Nagar is being used for quarantine and treatment

In Mangaluru:

• Wenlock District Hospital serves as the isolation and treatment facility
• Srinivas Port Hospital (NMPA) is designated for quarantine support

These facilities are equipped to handle high-risk infectious disease cases under strict medical supervision.
