Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP), Prashant Kumar, has issued a strict directive for enhanced security ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr 2025, in an effort to ensure peace and order during the festive period. The directive, issued on March 27, 2025, emphasizes heightened vigilance, particularly in sensitive areas, and outlines a series of measures to prevent any disruptions during the festivities.

Key Security Measures and Restrictions

To maintain law and order, the UP DGP has imposed a strict ban on the introduction of new traditions during Alvida Namaz and Eid-ul-Fitr. He emphasized that the introduction of any new practices should be immediately curtailed to avoid any potential disturbances. The security arrangements, he stated, should be based on a well-structured zone and sector plan, where sensitive and highly sensitive areas are identified and covered with a sufficient presence of police personnel, including magistrates and senior officers.

The directive highlights that drone surveillance will be used to monitor procession routes and other key areas, ensuring enhanced oversight of the event. CCTV installations are to be ensured at critical locations, with Quick Response Teams (QRTs) positioned at strategic points to deal with any unforeseen incidents. The fire safety arrangements in busy commercial areas are also to be reviewed, and anti-sabotage checks, including the use of bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs, will be conducted regularly.

Increased Surveillance and Community Engagement

The DGP has ordered an increase in intelligence gathering and the monitoring of social media to prevent the spread of false or misleading information that could disturb the peace. Senior police officers will conduct field visits to ensure that there is a visible police presence in the communities, and flag marches will be carried out in key locations with personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

Moreover, officers have been tasked with updating the records of individuals with a history of communal disturbances, and taking preventive legal action where necessary. Local police are encouraged to engage religious leaders and peace committee members to facilitate community cooperation and ensure that all communities celebrate the festival peacefully.

Routine Checks and Deployment of Riot Control Equipment

The district police chiefs have been directed to ensure routine checks through morning inspection teams and to conduct patrols in crowded markets and areas with heavy foot traffic. Riot control equipment, including tear gas, batons, and protective gear, must be checked and stationed at critical locations for immediate use, should the need arise. The UP-112 emergency vehicles will also be strategically positioned at sensitive routes, ensuring quick access if necessary.

No Room for Security Lapses

Prashant Kumar made it clear that there will be no room for lapses in security and all security measures must be rigorously implemented to ensure peace and harmony during Eid celebrations. The directive underscores the importance of careful planning and coordination between various security agencies to avoid any untoward incidents.

Community Cooperation and Public Engagement

In addition to the enforcement of strict security measures, the UP DGP has called for active community engagement. By working closely with religious leaders and peace committees, the police aim to foster an environment of cooperation and mutual respect among different communities. This approach is intended to prevent any disruption to the festive atmosphere and maintain law and order across the state.
