In a move to ensure peaceful celebrations during the Holi festival and Friday prayers (Namaz), the Uttar Pradesh police have heightened security measures across the state. The coincidence of Holi and Friday prayers on March 14, 2025, has led the state government to be especially cautious and vigilant to prevent any potential disturbances. In order to maintain law and order, authorities have ramped up efforts, including flag marches in sensitive areas, deployment of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) forces, and close monitoring of social media platforms.
Flag Marches and Deployment of PAC Forces
The police forces in Uttar Pradesh have been given clear directives to ensure that public order is not disrupted during the festival of colors and the Islamic prayers on Friday. The state's security forces are conducting flag marches in key cities, particularly those deemed to be sensitive. In a proactive measure, more than 60 PAC contingents have been deployed in critical locations across the state, particularly in areas with significant religious significance, such as Kashi, Mathura, and Ayodhya. The authorities are closely monitoring the Holi procession routes, with drones being used to ensure that these areas remain peaceful and free from any untoward incidents.
Enhanced Monitoring and Social Media Vigilance
The dual nature of the occasion—Holi and Friday namaz—has created a unique security challenge this year. Given that these events coincide during Ramzan, the police are paying special attention to social media platforms. Authorities have deployed a dedicated team to monitor digital platforms for any inflammatory content or fake news that could potentially disturb public peace. The police are actively identifying sources of rumors, fake news, or provocative messages and taking swift legal action against the individuals responsible for spreading such content.
As part of their preventive measures, police are enforcing a detailed security plan to ensure that Holika Dahan on the evening of March 13 and Holi celebrations the following day are carried out peacefully. The directive from DGP Prashant Kumar includes the deployment of forces at highly sensitive locations and comprehensive monitoring of the situation through various means, including drone surveillance and social media tracking.
Operational Plans for Medical Assistance and Patrolling
In addition to these security measures, the state government has instructed district hospitals to ensure that life-saving medicines and medical equipment are readily available during the festival. To support this, emergency services such as the 108 ambulance services and mobile medical units will be on standby, operating round the clock throughout the celebrations.
Additionally, special teams, including "poster parties" and "morning checking teams", will be deployed to oversee security in different areas. Senior officers will supervise regular foot patrolling in crowded markets and commercial hubs. The security of business organizations will also be prioritized with dedicated meetings to ensure safety. The government has made provisions for bomb detection squads, sniffer dog teams, and firefighting units to check crowded places, markets, and key establishments.
Conclusion
The Uttar Pradesh government's decision to bolster security measures for the Holi festival and Friday namaz demonstrates its commitment to ensuring peace and harmony during the celebrations. The deployment of PAC contingents, flag marches, and the monitoring of social media platforms are all part of a comprehensive strategy to prevent any disturbances during this dual event. With a strong security presence, vigilant monitoring, and medical support systems in place, the state aims to provide a safe environment for people to celebrate the festival of colors and perform Friday prayers peacefully.
