Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stated that the state remains one of the safest for people of all faiths, emphasizing that there have been no major communal riots since the BJP took power in 2017. Speaking in an interview with ANI, Adityanath reiterated that peace and security are interlinked for all communities, stressing that if Hindus remain safe, Muslims are also safe.
No Communal Riots Since 2017
Adityanath pointed out that before 2017, Uttar Pradesh often witnessed communal violence, where both Hindu and Muslim properties were affected. However, under his governance, law enforcement has ensured peace, preventing such incidents. He credited the strict handling of miscreants for maintaining law and order in the state.
Muslim Safety in Hindu-Majority Areas
In response to criticism regarding religious tolerance, Adityanath stated that a Muslim family living among 100 Hindu families is the safest, implying that Hindu-majority areas offer a sense of security. However, he questioned whether Hindus would be equally safe in a Muslim-majority environment, citing examples from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan where religious minorities have faced persecution.
Nagpur Violence and Law Enforcement
The CM also touched upon the recent Nagpur clashes, where protests erupted over the demand to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb in Maharashtra. He firmly stated that those involved in violence must be dealt with using strict legal action and should be responded to “in a language they understand.”
Sanatan Dharma and Religious Harmony
Yogi Adityanath also underscored that Sanatan Dharma is the oldest and most inclusive faith, emphasizing that Hindu rulers have never forced conversions or established religious dominion over others. He questioned the historical instances where Islamic religious structures were built over Hindu temples, arguing that even Islamic teachings do not permit such practices.
Krishna Janmabhoomi and Sambhal Disputes
The discussion also covered ongoing religious site disputes in Mathura and Sambhal. Referring to the Krishna Janmabhoomi-mosque dispute, Adityanath confirmed that the state government is following court directives to resolve the matter lawfully. Regarding Sambhal, he hinted that historical evidence suggests Hindu temples existed at the disputed sites and stated, "Whatever it is, we will find it and show the world."
Conclusion
UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s statements highlight his firm stance on law and order, communal harmony, and religious disputes. While he reassures that Muslims are safe in Uttar Pradesh, he also advocates for a historical re-evaluation of religious structures. His comments reflect the BJP government’s continued focus on governance, security, and cultural heritage.
