Indian leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month Award for January 2025, following his record-breaking performances in the T20I series against England.

The 32-year-old spinner was in unstoppable form, claiming 14 wickets in the five-match series, setting the record for most wickets by an Indian bowler in a bilateral T20I series. He fell just one wicket short of equaling the all-time record of 15 wickets, set by West Indies' Jason Holder. His consistent breakthroughs and match-winning spells played a crucial role in India’s success against England.

Chakravarthy will be competing for the ICC Player of the Month award alongside West Indies' Jomel Warrican and Pakistan’s Noman Ali, both of whom delivered standout performances in the recently concluded Test series between Pakistan and West Indies.

Jomel Warrican and Noman Ali: Test Cricket Dominance

West Indies left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican was the leading wicket-taker in the Pakistan vs West Indies Test series, claiming 19 wickets in just four innings at an astonishing average of 9.00. His performance included two five-wicket hauls and a four-wicket haul, earning him the Player of the Series award.

Pakistan’s Noman Ali also made history during the same series. The veteran left-arm spinner picked up 16 wickets in four innings, including two five-wicket hauls and a four-wicket haul. However, his biggest achievement came in the first Test in Multan, where he became the first Pakistani spinner to take a hat-trick in Test cricket.

At 38 years and 110 days, Noman is now the second-oldest cricketer to take a Test hat-trick, behind Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath, who achieved the feat at 38 years and 139 days.

Trisha Gongadi Nominated for Women's Player of the Month

Indian young star Trisha Gongadi has also been nominated for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month Award. The 19-year-old Indian batter was the standout performer in the U19 Women's T20 World Cup 2025, where she amassed 265 runs in six matches at a phenomenal average of 66.25 and a blistering strike rate of 149.72.

Trisha made history by becoming the first-ever player to score a century in the U19 Women's World Cup, further cementing her status as one of India’s rising stars.

She will be competing against Australian opener Beth Mooney and West Indies spinner Karishma Ramharack.

Beth Mooney was a standout performer for Australia in the Women’s Ashes, amassing 213 runs in three T20Is at an average of 106.50 and a strike rate of 146.89. She also contributed 90 runs in three ODIs, playing a crucial role in Australia's success against England.

West Indies’ Karishma Ramharack played a vital role with the ball, helping her team secure crucial wins with her game-changing spells in the Women's T20 series against South Africa.
