West Coast Paper Mills Ltd., through its division West Coast Optilinks (WCO), has announced the launch of a new state-of-the-art optical fiber manufacturing plant at Fab City in Rangareddy, Telangana. This new facility represents a significant step forward in the company’s mission to enhance its backward integration capabilities and strengthen its position in the rapidly expanding fiber optics market.
The newly commissioned plant, which has started its commercial production as of April 30, 2025, has been designed using the latest technological innovations from top European equipment providers. This move underscores West Coast Optilinks' commitment to providing world-class optical fiber products made in India.
According to Mr. Virendraa Bangur, Joint Managing Director of West Coast Paper Mills Ltd., India is experiencing a surge in fiber deployment, driven by transformative initiatives such as BharatNet, FTTH, and the rollout of 5G, with preparations underway for 6G technology. With these developments spurring exponential growth in fiber demand, WCO is poised to be a crucial player in India's digital transformation. The new plant is equipped to produce a range of optical fibers designed for various connectivity solutions, including fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and other high-performance applications.
Mr. Rajesh Bothra, CFO of West Coast Paper Mills Ltd., emphasized that this new plant is more than just a capacity expansion. He highlighted that by manufacturing optical fiber locally, the company is reducing dependence on imports, aligning itself with the Government's Make in India initiative, and contributing to India's digital self-reliance.
The company's expansion comes on the heels of a significant increase in optical fiber cable production capacity last year. This new facility will support the optical fiber requirements for WCO's existing units, further solidifying its market position. As India moves toward becoming a digitally empowered economy, West Coast Optilinks is well-positioned to provide critical connectivity solutions and drive innovation in the country's fiber optics sector.
