  • CM Naidu calls Yogandhra-2025 the biggest event of his tenure and a transformative health initiative with yoga events across 1 lakh locations.

  • Over 2.17 crore participants expected, including 5 lakh in Visakhapatnam, with Navy yoga on 11 ships and QR code system for coordination.

  • Mock drill on June 20 ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21; special focus on students adopting yoga habit from Class 9 onwards

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday (June 16, 2025) called the upcoming Yogandhra-2025 celebrations, marking the 11th International Yoga Day, a game changer in the State’s health sector. Speaking to media persons after a high-level review meeting with officials and political leaders at a hotel on Beach Road, Visakhapatnam, the Chief Minister outlined an elaborate plan to make this year’s Yoga Day the grandest event of his tenure.

A Vision for a Healthy and Prosperous State

Naidu said,

“We want to make Andhra Pradesh a prosperous, healthy and happy State. Yogandhra-2025 will mark a new chapter in our public health initiatives, by integrating yoga into people’s daily lives.”

He emphasised that Yoga Day celebrations would not be limited to symbolic participation, but would be deeply embedded into statewide health and education systems, with the hope of creating long-term wellness habits.

Grand Scale of Celebrations

Naidu revealed that Visakhapatnam was selected to host the main celebrations and will see participation of nearly 5 lakh people on June 21, including public, government employees, students, yoga instructors, and naval personnel. Across Andhra Pradesh, the event will be observed at over 1 lakh locations, with an estimated 2.17 crore people participating statewide.

He said,

“Every aspect of the event is being organised on a massive and unprecedented scale, with complete attention to logistics, safety and inclusivity.”

In a historic and symbolic gesture, Navy personnel will perform yoga on 11 ships anchored in the Bay of Bengal, off the Visakhapatnam coast, adding a maritime dimension to the celebrations.

PM Modi’s Idea and Naidu’s Response

Naidu also disclosed that the idea of organising the 11th International Yoga Day in Andhra Pradesh came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The Prime Minister specifically expressed his wish that Andhra Pradesh should host this year’s Yoga Day. I immediately agreed and assured him of organising it in a grand and meaningful manner,” Naidu said.

The move is seen as a prestigious endorsement from the Centre and a moment of pride for the State, especially as it showcases its infrastructure, planning capability, and commitment to holistic development.

Visakhapatnam Yoga Day Declaration

The Chief Minister announced that a special Visakhapatnam Yoga Day Declaration will be unveiled on June 21. The declaration is expected to outline:

  • The State’s commitment to promoting yoga and wellness,

  • Measures to integrate yoga into schools, colleges and workplaces,

  • Long-term plans for institutionalising yoga-based health awareness programmes.

Technology and Logistics at the Core

A state-of-the-art QR code-based system will be used to manage the logistics of the mega event. Every participant will receive a QR code that will guide them online to their designated yoga location. Additionally:

  • Support staff and volunteers will be stationed at every venue for physical guidance,

  • A dedicated observation team will monitor the smooth conduct of the events,

  • Alternative venues have been pre-designated in case of weather disturbances.

Naidu stated that such tech-enabled event management will set a new standard for crowd management in public health events.

Mock Drill and Preparedness

To ensure flawless execution, a mock drill event is planned for June 20, one day before the main event. This rehearsal will help fine-tune:

  • Participant flow management,

  • Distribution of yoga mats and amenities,

  • Coordination between security, medical and civic teams.

Facilities at the venues will include:

  • Toilets and sanitation units,

  • Free drinking water,

  • Emergency medical stations,

  • Yoga mats for all participants.

Statewide Yoga Integration

Naidu underlined that the Yogandhra-2025 initiative is not just an event but a month-long health awareness campaign. Throughout June, yoga-related activities have been organised across districts including:

  • Workshops in government schools,

  • Awareness rallies,

  • Community yoga camps,

  • Sessions on stress management and digital detox.

He called upon students, especially from Class 9 onwards, to make yoga a daily habit.

“In today’s world dominated by technology and digital lifestyles, yoga is essential for mental clarity, emotional balance and physical fitness,” Naidu asserted.

This is part of his vision to integrate preventive health practices into the school curriculum and promote a culture of mindfulness among the youth.

Inter-Departmental Coordination

The preparation for Yogandhra-2025 is a result of coordinated efforts from multiple departments including:

  • Health and Family Welfare,

  • School Education,

  • Youth and Sports,

  • Urban Administration,

  • Tourism and Culture,

  • Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board,

  • Along with support from Defence personnel and volunteer organisations.

National and International Attention

Given the scale and planning, Yogandhra-2025 is expected to attract national and international media attention. Delegates from yoga institutes around the world have been invited, and live broadcast arrangements are being made.

Social media campaigns under the hashtags #Yogandhra2025, #YogaInAndhra, and #HealthyAP have been trending since early June, further enhancing public engagement.

Boost to Tourism and Cultural Image

Apart from health, the event is expected to provide a significant boost to Visakhapatnam’s image as a cultural and tourism hub.

The Chief Minister mentioned that special packages are being offered for domestic and international tourists wishing to witness the yoga festivities.

A multi-lingual tourist helpdesk will also be functional at major entry points, including:

  • Visakhapatnam airport,

  • Railway station,

  • RTC bus stations.

Conclusion

Yogandhra-2025 is not just a one-day celebration but part of a visionary roadmap by the Andhra Pradesh government to promote wellness, mindfulness and preventive health. With record-breaking participation, naval collaboration, and nationwide attention, the event is poised to become a turning point in India’s public health narrative.

Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership and strategic execution of this initiative reinforce his commitment to making Andhra Pradesh a model State in terms of health, happiness and holistic development.
