Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has spotlighted the transformation of the state's traditional industries through a combination of visionary policy measures, financial aid, and brand-building initiatives. Speaking at the Yuva Conclave 2025, he said that Uttar Pradesh’s exports have surged from ₹86,000 crore to over ₹2 lakh crore, largely driven by schemes like the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative and Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana, aimed at reviving handicrafts, MSMEs, and cottage industries.
The Chief Minister stated that the Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana, launched in 2019, has played a critical role in uplifting traditional artisans by offering free training, modern toolkits, and a sense of dignity and identity. Emphasizing the value of traditional craftsmanship, he said, “A society that doesn’t respect its artisans has no future.”
Survey Reveals District-Wise Strengths in Traditional Products
CM Yogi shared that after coming to power in 2017, the BJP-led government conducted a comprehensive survey across Uttar Pradesh. This survey uncovered that each district had its own unique traditional industry, many of which were facing extinction due to lawlessness, corruption, and mass migration.
This finding laid the foundation for the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, launched in 2018, which aimed at reviving unique, district-specific traditional enterprises. The scheme has since evolved into a national brand, creating job opportunities, empowering artisans, and drastically improving state exports.
"Earlier, markets were flooded with Chinese goods during festivals. Today, ODOP products are replacing them in households across the country," Yogi Adityanath noted, emphasizing the turnaround in consumer preference and market trust for local goods.
Ease of Doing Business and Entrepreneurial Boost
CM Yogi Adityanath highlighted key reforms in ease of doing business that are accelerating Uttar Pradesh’s MSME sector. Notably:
-
No licensing requirement for the first 1,000 days for new businesses in the state
-
₹5 lakh insurance coverage for young entrepreneurs
-
Financial assistance and mentoring for artisans and MSMEs
These measures have made Uttar Pradesh a more business-friendly state, encouraging start-ups, local production, and self-reliance. The CM stressed that these policies are ensuring that rural and semi-urban regions also benefit from economic development, creating a balanced growth model.
Global Platforms and Recognition
Yogi Adityanath announced that Uttar Pradesh's local products will be prominently showcased at the International Trade Show 2025, to be held from September 25 to 29 at the India Expo Centre in Noida. The Buyer-Seller Meet at this mega-event is expected to attract international buyers, giving ODOP and other local brands exposure to the global market.
Highlighting the scale and impact of this initiative, he mentioned:
-
4 lakh participants in the first edition
-
5 lakh participants in the second edition
These numbers show growing confidence in the state’s capability to support global trade, especially in traditional sectors that were previously considered non-competitive.
Institutional Support and Policy Framework
The revival strategy for Uttar Pradesh’s traditional industries is being supported by multiple departments, including:
-
Department of MSMEs
-
District industries centres
-
State and central government coordination on ODOP
-
Support from technical institutes and universities
At the Yuva Conclave, top dignitaries like MSME Minister Rakesh Sachan, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, and Additional Chief Secretary Alok Kumar joined CM Yogi in outlining the roadmap for further growth.
The administration is pushing for:
-
Skill development initiatives
-
Technology integration in traditional sectors
-
Promotion of eco-friendly products
-
Access to national and international exhibitions
This comprehensive approach is expected to elevate Uttar Pradesh as a global export hub for artisanal and heritage products.
Looking Ahead: From Self-Reliance to Global Leadership
CM Yogi Adityanath reiterated his government's commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat, stating that Uttar Pradesh is now a leading contributor to this national vision. Through schemes like ODOP and Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana, the state is creating an ecosystem where tradition meets innovation.
The state’s efforts are not just boosting exports, but also:
-
Reinstating respect for traditional skills
-
Promoting rural employment
-
Combating urban migration
-
Enhancing women’s participation in handicraft and cottage sectors
CM Yogi called upon young people, artisans, and entrepreneurs to take pride in their craft and use government platforms to expand their market reach. He encouraged educational institutions and private investors to collaborate with the government to fuel this transformation.
Conclusion
Under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a remarkable revival of its traditional industries, with the state’s exports surpassing ₹2 lakh crore. From policy-level decisions to grassroots training, a comprehensive support structure is now in place to ensure that artisans and local entrepreneurs are not only surviving but thriving. With strategic events like the International Trade Show 2025, the state is eyeing global recognition, thereby fulfilling the dream of a self-reliant and prosperous Uttar Pradesh.
