On August 21, 2024, Air India unveiled its latest initiative to enhance passenger experience by introducing 'Vista', a wireless inflight entertainment service. This development is a response to passenger feedback about previous glitches and non-functional inflight entertainment systems on some of the airline's aircraft. The Tata Group-owned airline is committed to improving its service quality, which includes retrofitting its older fleet and integrating new aircraft with upgraded systems.

What is Wireless Inflight Entertainment Service?

The 'Vista' service is designed to provide passengers with a seamless entertainment experience. Unlike traditional inflight entertainment systems, 'Vista' allows passengers to stream movies, TV shows, and other content directly onto their personal electronic devices. This service supports a variety of operating systems, including iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS, ensuring compatibility across different platforms.

In addition to content streaming, 'Vista' features a live map display that enables passengers to track their flight in real time. This upgrade is particularly beneficial for those traveling on older aircraft, providing an enhanced inflight experience during the transition phase. Air India's current operational fleet includes 140 aircraft, and the introduction of 'Vista' is expected to significantly improve passenger satisfaction.

Fleet Upgrades and Exclusions

The rollout of 'Vista' is part of Air India's broader strategy to modernize its fleet. While the service is being introduced on existing wide-body aircraft, it will also be available on narrow-body planes in the near future. However, the newly inducted Boeing 777 (B777) and Airbus A350 (A350) aircraft, which come with a new inflight entertainment system, will not feature 'Vista'.

Expansion of Domestic Flights

In addition to its inflight entertainment upgrade, Air India Express has announced the launch of six new daily flights. This expansion includes routes from Chennai and Kolkata, aiming to enhance its domestic connectivity. The new flights include:

Chennai-Bhubaneswar

Chennai-Bagdogra

Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram

Kolkata-Varanasi

Kolkata-Guwahati

Guwahati-Jaipur

The Kolkata-Varanasi flight will depart daily at 7:40 am and arrive in Varanasi at 9:05 am, with the return flight leaving Varanasi at 9:40 am and landing in Kolkata at 11:10 am. Similarly, the Kolkata-Guwahati flight will take off at 12:10 pm and reach Guwahati at 1:25 pm, with the return flight departing Guwahati at 1:55 pm and landing in Kolkata at 4:35 pm.
