Gujarat ATS had earlier arrested another suspected spy, Sahdev Gohil, for leaking Navy and BSF info to a Pakistani handler.
In a significant security development, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has detained a man named Qasim from the Gangora area of Pahari village in Rajasthan on suspicion of espionage activities linked to Pakistan. The arrest follows the discovery of evidence confirming his connection with Pakistan, and he is currently under interrogation by security agencies.
Details on Qasim’s Background and Pakistan Link
According to intelligence sources, Qasim, who previously resided in Delhi, suddenly relocated to his native village in Rajasthan. He obtained a visa to travel to Pakistan, where he reportedly married a Pakistani woman. The couple maintained contact during Operation Sindoor, a security operation, raising suspicions about Qasim's activities.
Security officials have indicated that Qasim’s mobile phone will undergo a thorough forensic examination to uncover further details about his potential involvement in espionage. The interrogation is ongoing to ascertain the full extent of his connections and actions.
Related Arrest in Gujarat: Sahdev Singh Gohil
This arrest comes shortly after the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) apprehended another suspected Pakistani spy, Sahdev Singh Gohil, near the Kutch border on May 24. Gohil, who worked as a health worker in Dayapar, Kutch, is alleged to have passed sensitive information about the Indian Navy and Border Security Force (BSF) to Pakistan.
Sources reveal that Gohil was reportedly in contact with a woman named Aditi Bhardwaj, believed to be a Pakistani spy or a codename used by a Pakistani handler. Gohil allegedly shared critical intelligence under her instructions and received Rs 40,000 in return. Investigations indicate that "Aditi" might be a fictitious identity used to maintain communication with Gohil, with the contact spanning over a year.
The Gujarat ATS has sent Gohil’s mobile phone to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for detailed analysis to trace all communication and uncover additional leads.
Implications for National Security
These consecutive arrests highlight ongoing challenges faced by Indian intelligence and security agencies in countering espionage attempts along India’s sensitive border areas. The detection of such espionage networks is critical to safeguarding military secrets and national security interests.
The IB and ATS continue to collaborate closely to unravel these spy networks and ensure timely action against any breaches. Both investigations remain active, with authorities pledging stringent measures to protect India’s sovereignty.
Public and Official Responses
Security experts have praised the swift action taken by intelligence agencies in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Analysts suggest that the detection of such operatives reflects enhanced vigilance and the growing capabilities of India’s internal security framework.
Government officials have not yet released detailed statements but are expected to address the issue in upcoming briefings, emphasizing the importance of intelligence cooperation and public awareness in tackling espionage threats.
