CB-CID begins probe into the abduction of a Tiruvallur teen, allegedly aimed at separating an inter-caste married couple.
-
Suspended IPS officer H.M. Jayaram and MLA Poovai M. Jagan Moorthy are among those reportedly involved.

The incident took place after the couple married in April 2025, against the woman’s family's wishes.
The Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) has officially taken over the high-profile abduction case involving the disappearance of an 18-year-old from Thiruvalangadu in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. The case is reportedly linked to an effort to forcibly separate an inter-caste couple who married earlier this year despite opposition from the woman's family.
The alleged abduction, which occurred in the early hours of June 7, 2025, has gained political and public attention, particularly due to the involvement of senior officials and elected representatives.
Political and Police Figures Under the Scanner
The case has taken a serious turn with the inclusion of suspended Additional Director General of Police H.M. Jayaram and Kilvaithinakuppam MLA and Puratchi Bharatham Katchi leader ‘Poovai’ M. Jagan Moorthy among the accused.
Investigators suspect that the abduction was orchestrated with the support of powerful individuals, including a dismissed woman sub-inspector, acting on behalf of the woman’s family to dismantle the marriage.
The Couple and Timeline of Events
The couple at the centre of the case — Dhanush (22) from Kalambakkam village in Tiruvallur and Vijaya Sri (21) from Theni district — got married on April 15, 2025, in defiance of the woman’s family, who opposed the union on caste grounds.
In the early hours of June 7, five men arrived at Dhanush’s residence on Bank Street, Kalambakkam. Though the couple was not present at the time, his mother, Lakshmi, who answered the door, later informed police of the incident. The suspected group reportedly returned later and abducted a teenage relative, believed to be part of a larger effort to trace or coerce the couple.
CB-CID to Lead Full-Scale Investigation
With the case escalating in seriousness and involving politically sensitive elements, the state government has handed over the probe to the CB-CID. Officials say that the special investigation team will re-examine CCTV footage, phone records, and witness testimonies, and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the alleged abduction.
Sources suggest that more arrests are expected, and the role of former police personnel and political aides is under active scrutiny.
Caste and Coercion: A Recurring Pattern
This case is being seen as part of a disturbing pattern of caste-based coercion and violence against inter-caste couples in Tamil Nadu. Rights activists have called for strong legal protections for such couples and accountability for officials misusing power to interfere in private marital choices.
Conclusion: Law Versus Influence
As the CB-CID begins its formal investigation, the spotlight remains on how law enforcement handles cases involving high-ranking officials and elected leaders. The outcome of this probe could have wider implications for inter-caste marriage protections, police accountability, and political interference in personal matters.
