Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the Delhi Budget for 2025-26 in the Assembly, marking a significant shift under the BJP-led government. The budget is pegged at a record Rs 1 lakh crore, a 31.5% increase from the previous year. This is the first budget presented by the BJP after their victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, ending a long tenure of Aam Aadmi Party rule.

One of the standout features of this year's budget is the emphasis on education and technology. As part of an initiative to bridge the digital divide, the Delhi government will provide free laptops to 1,200 students advancing from Class 10 to Class 11. A budget of Rs 7.5 crore has been allocated for this scheme, aimed at supporting students in their educational journey. In addition, 175 new computer labs and smart classrooms will be established with an investment of Rs 100 crore, promoting technological access in government schools.

In terms of social welfare, the Delhi government has made a significant move by raising the pension for Divyang (persons with disabilities) and women in distress. The monthly pension has been increased from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000, with Rs 10,047 crore set aside for social security and welfare initiatives. These efforts align with the government’s goal of improving the quality of life for marginalized communities.

Another key initiative is the government's focus on women's safety, with an allocation for the installation of 50,000 additional CCTV cameras across the city. This is expected to enhance surveillance and contribute to the safety of women in public spaces.

The budget also includes infrastructure development to modernize Delhi's transportation systems and improve road connectivity. A provision of Rs 1,000 crore will be used to develop road transport and connectivity with NCR. In addition, the government has set aside Rs 900 crore for the development of clean water systems and Rs 500 crore for the development of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).

For tourism, the government has allocated Rs 117 crore, which includes funds for organizing an international film festival in Delhi for the first time. Additionally, Delhi will host a Global Investors Summit every two years to boost economic development.

This year’s budget also aims to address the pressing issue of pollution, with dedicated funds allocated for cleaning the Yamuna River and tackling waterlogging issues. With a focus on education, women’s welfare, health, and infrastructure, the Delhi government has laid the foundation for a more developed and modern capital under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta.
