  • Seed Funding and Selection: ₹50,000 funding for 1,000 teams of students.
  • Mentorship and Final Pitch: Opportunity for 100 teams to pitch to investors.
  • Youth Empowerment: Encouraging students to shift from job seekers to job creators.
  • Scaling Up the Program: Expansion of a successful school initiative to higher education institutions.
  • Delhi Government’s New Entrepreneurship Initiative
On December 10, 2024, the Delhi government rolled out the Business Blasters Seniors Program, a new scheme aimed at encouraging college and industrial training institute (ITI) students to become entrepreneurs. The program is an expanded version of a successful initiative previously implemented for school students under the Aam Aadmi Party’s governance. This scheme offers seed funding of ₹50,000 to each of the 1,000 selected teams of students, enabling them to launch their own businesses.

    Seed Funding and Team Selection
The program targets small teams of 3 to 5 students from universities and ITIs under the Delhi government’s jurisdiction. Each team will receive ₹50,000 to kickstart their business ventures. Out of these 1,000 teams, 100 will be selected for the finals, where they will have the chance to present their business ideas to potential investors. The program aims to give students not only the financial resources to launch their businesses but also mentorship to help grow their startups and navigate challenges.

    Mentorship and Investment Opportunities
The finalists will gain access to mentorship from industry experts, who will guide them in developing their business ideas into fully operational ventures. Additionally, these finalists will get the chance to pitch their ideas to investors, potentially leading to funding opportunities and valuable connections in the business world.

A Vision for Empowering Youth and Shaping Future Job Creators
Delhi’s Chief Minister, Atishi, emphasized the importance of shifting the mindset of young people from being job seekers to job creators. She noted that India’s unemployment rate remains high despite the abundance of talented youth, with about 42% of graduates being unemployed. According to Atishi, societal pressure and fear of failure have led many students to follow conventional career paths rather than venture into entrepreneurship.

She explained that, while India boasts of having exceptionally talented individuals, the pressure to secure a "good job" has become the central focus of education, pushing students away from exploring riskier but potentially more rewarding entrepreneurial paths. Atishi believes that the Business Blasters scheme will encourage students to build confidence in their abilities and take the risk of becoming entrepreneurs, eventually contributing to job creation in the country.

Breaking the Fear and Fostering Confidence
Atishi pointed out that Indian youth face societal fears that discourage them from becoming entrepreneurs. She compared this situation to youth in other countries who often launch major startups, while Indian students are focused on securing stable jobs. “If all our youth join the line to seek jobs, who will create jobs?” she asked. The Business Blasters initiative is designed to instill confidence in young minds and motivate them to take charge of their futures, making a significant shift toward entrepreneurship and economic self-reliance.

Conclusion: Promoting Youth Entrepreneurship in Delhi
The Business Blasters Seniors Program marks a significant step toward creating a culture of entrepreneurship among India’s youth. By offering seed funding, mentorship, and the chance to pitch to investors, the scheme empowers students to step outside traditional career paths and take bold steps in building businesses. This initiative reflects the Delhi government's commitment to fostering innovation, job creation, and entrepreneurial spirit in the country’s youth.
