On December 2, 2024, Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL), a prominent multimodal logistics company in India, announced the launch of a new container train service to Kandla Port. This new service connects five Inland Container Depots (ICDs) located in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ahmedabad, Ludhiana, and Kashipur to the Kandla Port. With this addition, Kandla becomes the fourth port in the Western region serviced by Gateway Distriparks, joining Mundra, Pipavav, and Nhava Sheva ports in the company’s extensive logistics network.
Strategic Expansion to Boost Logistics Services
The expansion to Kandla Port enhances Gateway Distriparks’ ability to service a wider range of customers across key industrial regions in India. By adding Kandla Port, GDL strengthens its multimodal logistics network, offering more options for transportation and container handling. Prem Kishan Dass Gupta, the Chairman & Managing Director of Gateway Distriparks, expressed that while initial volumes are expected to be modest, the company anticipates significant future growth. He noted that this expansion would be achieved without any additional capital expenditure or new rake deployments.
This strategic approach allows Gateway Distriparks to effectively leverage its existing fleet and continue expanding its services without incurring extra costs, ultimately benefiting both customers and shareholders.
Efficient Double-Stack Operations for Better Transit Times
The new service will feature double-stack operations from key locations like Viramgam, Garhi, and Faridabad. Additionally, containers originating from Ludhiana and Kashipur will also be double-stacked via the company’s hub-and-spoke operations, optimizing both efficiency and transit times. This method is designed to increase operational efficiency while ensuring faster, reliable delivery times for customers.
