The Guntur district police have seized a bulletproof vehicle from the convoy of YSR Congress Party leader and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, in connection with a hit-and-run case that occurred earlier this week.
According to District Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar, the seizure was based on video footage, technical data, and corroborative evidence collected by investigators. The vehicle, allegedly involved in the incident, has been taken to the Nallapadu police station in Guntur City for further forensic examination.
Jagan Mohan Reddy Named as Accused
The police have officially registered a case, naming Jagan Mohan Reddy as accused number two, while the driver of the vehicle has been listed as accused number one. The incident reportedly occurred when a vehicle from Reddy’s convoy struck a pedestrian and failed to stop, triggering public outcry and a swift police response.
“Based on technical and video evidence, the vehicle has been seized. Investigation is ongoing,” SP Satish Kumar told The Hindu.
Legal and Political Ramifications
The case has sparked a political storm in Andhra Pradesh, as opposition parties have questioned whether the investigation will be conducted impartially, given the involvement of a high-profile political figure. Legal experts say the seizure of the vehicle strengthens the seriousness of the probe and puts pressure on law enforcement to act transparently.
Reddy, who served as Chief Minister until May 2024, has not issued a public statement regarding the case as of now. His party, YSRCP, has also remained silent on the development.
Vehicle Sent for Forensic Analysis
Sources in the police department confirmed that the bulletproof vehicle is being subjected to forensic and mechanical inspection, including analysis of the exterior, tyres, and impact traces, to determine whether it was indeed involved in the accident.
The Nallapadu police station has been tasked with coordinating evidence collection, and a formal interrogation of the driver is expected soon.
Conclusion: Investigation Under Watch
As the case unfolds, public attention remains high, with demands for transparency and accountability from both political and legal circles. The seizure of a former CM’s convoy vehicle in a criminal case is being seen as a significant move by the Guntur police.
