India Issues Mpox Alert Amid Global Surge

India has sounded an alert for potential Mpox cases on Tuesday as the country braces for a possible outbreak amid a global surge in infections. The central government has directed airport, ports, and border authorities to remain vigilant and has activated precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

Three major hospitals in Delhi — Safdarjung Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, and Lady Hardinge Hospital — have been instructed to set up isolation facilities for suspected Mpox cases. Additionally, AIIMS Delhi has outlined a comprehensive protocol for handling suspected patients to mitigate the risk of transmission.

This alert comes at a time when the world is witnessing a significant rise in Mpox cases, prompting countries to take preventive measures to avoid an epidemic.

In the political arena, the BJP announced its list of candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha bypolls on Tuesday. The list features a mix of seasoned politicians and new entrants to the party, including two Union ministers. Ravneet Singh Bittu has been nominated to contest from Rajasthan, while George Kurian will represent Madhya Pradesh.

The list also includes notable figures such as Mamata Mohanta from Odisha, formerly with the BJD, and Kiran Choudhary from Haryana, who recently joined the BJP from Congress. Other candidates include Manan Kumar Mishra from Bihar, Dhairyashil Patil from Maharashtra, and Rajib Bhattacharjee from Tripura. These selections are seen as strategic moves by the BJP to consolidate its position in the Upper House of Parliament.

Protests Erupt Over Badlapur Sexual Assault and Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Cases

Meanwhile, public outrage has intensified across the country in response to two heinous crimes. Protests erupted in Badlapur, Thane district, after the alleged sexual assault of two four-year-old girls by a school sweeper. The incident has sparked widespread anger, with thousands of protesters blocking railway tracks at Badlapur station and storming a local school building on Tuesday. The police had to resort to lathi charges as demonstrators occupied the tracks and pelted stones at the police.

Simultaneously, protests have also spread over the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, with citizens demanding swift justice and accountability. Both incidents have ignited debates on the safety and security of women and children in India.

Stock Market Surge Amid Positive Global Cues

In the financial sector, the Nifty 50 and Sensex benchmarks found firmer ground on Tuesday, closing higher due to robust buying in banking, financial, and auto stocks. This upward trend was supported by a largely positive tone in global equities, spurred by easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a decline in global crude oil prices.

The Sensex and Nifty’s gains reflect the broader market sentiment, which has been buoyed by expectations of economic recovery and stability. As geopolitical tensions ease and crude prices fall, investors are regaining confidence, leading to a surge in banking, financial, and auto stocks.

With these developments, India is witnessing a mix of challenges and opportunities across various sectors, from healthcare and public safety to politics and the economy.
