What’s Covered Under the Article:

  • Iran claims its military launched the final missile barrage at Israel just before the ceasefire, despite no formal ceasefire confirmation from Tehran.

  • President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire as a victory, stating both Israel and Iran agreed, but Iranian leaders continue to deny any formal deal.

  • Missile strikes and casualties continue to be reported, especially in cities like Beersheba and Jerusalem, as confusion remains over the ceasefire's actual status.

The fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran entered a critical and confusing phase on June 24, 2025, as Iran claimed it had launched its final missile strike before halting hostilities, while US President Donald Trump declared that the war had ended in a "complete and total ceasefire." The announcement followed 12 days of intense conflict, which saw retaliatory strikes, civilian deaths, and a flurry of diplomatic efforts across the Middle East and beyond.

Tensions reached a boiling point after Iran launched multiple missile attacks targeting the Al-Udeid Air Base in Doha, Qatar, a US military stronghold. The attack marked Tehran's first direct military retaliation against the US after the bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites ordered by Trump. According to US sources, 13 out of 14 missiles launched by Iran were intercepted, while one impacted the base without causing casualties.

Following this, Iran launched further strikes on Israeli targets, particularly in Beersheba and Tel Aviv, prompting Israel to conduct retaliatory airstrikes deep into Iranian territory. Reports confirmed at least three deaths in Beersheba and several injuries in Tel Aviv. Israeli air defense systems, including the Iron Dome, were activated multiple times, successfully intercepting several incoming missiles, including one over Jerusalem.

Despite these active military exchanges, Trump took to social media late Monday night to announce the end of the hostilities. “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE,” he wrote. He further stated that both nations had reached out simultaneously to request peace and emphasized that the “Middle East is the real winner.”

To underscore his message, the White House reposted an image of Trump holding a red cap emblazoned with the words “Trump was right about everything.” However, no formal statement confirming the ceasefire was issued by either Israel or Iran.

Iran Denies Agreement, But Suggests Possible Halt

In contrast to Trump’s confident declaration, Iranian officials strongly refuted the existence of a formal ceasefire. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on social media that no agreement had been reached and reiterated that Israel initiated the conflict. He emphasized, “As of now, there is NO agreement on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations.”

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also took a defiant stance, saying that Iran is not a nation that surrenders and will never yield to threats. “We didn’t harm anyone. And we will not accept any harassment from anyone under any circumstances,” Khamenei said.

However, Araghchi did hint at a conditional halt, stating that if Israel ceased its attacks by 4 a.m. Tehran time, Iran would stop its retaliatory actions. He later posted that Iran’s final military operations ended exactly at 4 a.m., implying a self-imposed cessation of attacks but still falling short of recognizing a negotiated truce.

Final Missile Barrage Confirmed by Iranian Media

According to Iran’s SNN media outlet, Iran's last barrage of missiles was launched toward Israeli territory moments before the ceasefire was to take effect. This “final blow,” as described by Tehran’s media, was framed as a closing act of punishment for Israeli aggression.

Casualties and Continued Strikes Despite Truce

Even after Trump's declaration, the situation on the ground remained chaotic. Reports from Israeli media revealed:

  • Three fatalities in Beersheba from missile strikes.

  • Critical injuries from a building hit in Tel Aviv.

  • Interception of ballistic missiles over Jerusalem by Israel’s defense system.

Simultaneously, air raid sirens continued to blare across southern and central Israel, while the IDF maintained readiness to retaliate against any further missile threats. Despite the ceasefire talk, Israeli officials warned the public of potential new strikes from Iran, indicating continued concern over Tehran's commitment to halting hostilities.

Global Diplomacy Behind the Scenes

Amid the violence, Qatar emerged as a key player in the ceasefire efforts. According to Reuters, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani played an instrumental role in communicating with Iranian officials after a phone call between Trump and the Emir of Qatar.

The US negotiating team—including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff—worked through both direct and indirect channels to finalize the deal. Throughout the negotiation process, Trump remained in constant contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Air Travel Disruptions and Regional Impact

As a result of the missile activity and regional volatility, multiple airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, temporarily suspended flights to and from the Middle East. Air India diverted several long-haul routes to the US and Europe, while IndiGo and Akasa Air issued advisories and resumed operations cautiously as regional airports reopened.

The Indian Civil Aviation Ministry, led by Ram Mohan Naidu, assured the public that passenger safety was the top priority, and real-time coordination with airlines was ongoing.

Conclusion: A Fragile Pause Amid Deep Divides

While Trump’s announcement of victory and ceasefire brings temporary hope, the on-ground reality remains precarious. With Iran refusing to acknowledge a formal deal and Israel still on high alert, the potential for renewed violence remains high.

Whether this fragile truce holds or collapses will depend on diplomatic follow-through, regional restraint, and mutual willingness to avoid further escalation.

As of now, the world watches cautiously, hoping the ceasefire marks the end of hostilities rather than a short pause in an ongoing and deeply rooted conflict.
