Iran Vows Retaliation After U.S. Strikes Nuclear Sites; Middle East Conflict Intensifies
The already-volatile Middle East entered a dangerous new phase as Iran vowed to retaliate following a powerful and targeted U.S. military strike on its nuclear infrastructure, signaling a potential descent into full-blown regional warfare.
In the early hours of June 22, 2025, the United States launched precision airstrikes on three of Iran’s key nuclear sites—Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—deploying 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs and Tomahawk cruise missiles. The strikes followed heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, with the U.S. now taking direct military action in what observers fear could spiral into a widespread conflagration.
Diplomatic Fallout: Iran Accuses U.S. of Killing Dialogue
In an emergency United Nations Security Council session held later on Sunday, Iran's Permanent Representative Amir Saeid Iravani accused the U.S. of shattering any hopes of diplomacy.
“The United States has decided to destroy diplomacy with its warmongering actions. We will not remain silent,” Iravani said.
He added that Iran had "repeatedly warned the U.S. regime" not to provoke further instability, warning that Iran’s military would now determine the “timing, nature, and scale” of its “proportionate response”.
Iran’s leadership emphasized that Washington’s direct involvement in the conflict marked a dangerous threshold, transforming the U.S. from a supporting ally of Israel to an active combatant in the region.
