What's covered under the Article:

  • Indian agencies dismantled an ISI spy network planning a terror attack in Delhi, arresting two key operatives including a Pakistani-backed agent.

  • Confidential Indian Army documents were recovered from the accused, who were involved in espionage and document transfer to Pakistan.

  • Investigation revealed possible links with Pakistani High Commission staff and ISI officers influencing social media influencers in India.

In a major intelligence breakthrough, Indian security agencies have successfully busted a Pakistan-backed espionage network linked to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), foiling a terror plot targeted at the national capital, Delhi. This three-month-long covert operation led to the arrest of two key operatives, including a Pakistani agent embedded within India, highlighting the ongoing security challenges posed by foreign intelligence outfits.

The sleeper cell network of the ISI, operating discreetly in Delhi, was dismantled following extensive intelligence gathering and surveillance. The operation culminated in the arrest of Ansarul Mian Ansari, a man of Nepali origin, from a hotel in Delhi as he attempted to flee the country via Delhi airport. Ansarul was found in possession of highly sensitive documents related to the Indian Army and Armed Forces, which had been copied onto CDs under ISI instructions to be transmitted back to Pakistan.

Ansarul disclosed that he had initially met his ISI handler while working as a cab driver in Qatar. Under ISI directives, he was tasked with compiling confidential military documents and forwarding them to the Pakistani intelligence agency. The investigative agencies also arrested Akhlakh Azam from Ranchi, who was implicated in facilitating the transfer of these classified documents to ISI officials.

The intelligence operation, which spanned from January to March 2025, was conducted with utmost secrecy involving central intelligence agencies alongside the special cell of the Delhi Police. Forensic analysis confirmed the authenticity and sensitivity of the recovered documents, affirming the gravity of the espionage threat.

Further probing revealed potential links between the spy network and certain staffers at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. Reports have suggested involvement of ISI officers Muzammil and Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known by the alias Danish, who were allegedly attempting to influence Indian YouTubers and social media influencers, possibly to propagate disinformation or further their covert agenda.

This breakthrough underscores the persistent efforts by hostile foreign intelligence entities to compromise India’s national security through espionage and terror plots. The Indian intelligence apparatus continues to work relentlessly to identify and neutralize such threats, safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.

The arrests serve as a stern warning against espionage activities and reaffirm the commitment of Indian agencies to thwart any attempts at undermining peace and security in the national capital and beyond. Authorities have also intensified scrutiny on foreign diplomatic missions suspected of harboring or facilitating espionage operations.

Travelers and citizens are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies as investigations proceed. The Indian government has reaffirmed its stance on zero tolerance towards terrorism and espionage, ensuring that all necessary measures will be taken to protect the nation from internal and external threats.
