A Navy staffer was arrested for leaking Operation Sindoor and sensitive defence information to a Pakistani handler.
-
The accused, from Rewari in Haryana, was trapped by a female spy pretending to be an Indian woman.
-
CID-Security says the leaked material includes strategic naval plans and communication protocols.
Indian intelligence authorities on Thursday (June 26, 2025) confirmed the arrest of a Navy personnel involved in leaking sensitive details of Operation Sindoor and other classified information to a Pakistani intelligence agent, in what officials described as a major internal security breach.
Inspector General of Police (CID–Security), Vishnu Kant Gupta, said the accused, identified as Yadav from Rewari, Haryana, had shared confidential military documents and operational data with a woman who posed as an Indian national but was later confirmed to be a Pakistani handler.
Operation Sindoor Details Among Leaked Information
The probe revealed that the accused shared details related to Operation Sindoor, a strategic and sensitive naval initiative, along with protocols, communication codes, and troop movement plans. The handler lured Yadav through social media and personal messaging platforms, gaining his trust over several months in what appears to be a classic honeytrap operation.
Officials suspect that Yadav believed he was in contact with a woman working in Indian defence services.
Long-Term Surveillance Leads to Arrest
According to sources within the Central Intelligence Department, Yadav had been under surveillance for several weeks. Intelligence agencies flagged irregularities in his online communication patterns and access logs, which eventually led to his detention.
“We have strong evidence of a digital trail linking the accused to a known Pakistani handler,” said IGP Vishnu Kant Gupta. “This includes screenshots, voice messages, and file transfers.”
Broader Espionage Concerns for Defence Establishment
The arrest has raised serious concerns within defence and intelligence circles over the vulnerability of internal networks and personnel to foreign influence, especially via digital honeytrap tactics.
Security analysts warn that this case highlights the need for:
-
Stricter cyber hygiene training for defence staff
-
Regular psychological vetting and background checks
-
Stronger encryption and access control for sensitive projects
Case Handed Over to Central Agencies
The matter has now been escalated to national security and counter-espionage agencies, who will probe whether any other individuals were involved, and how much data was compromised. Preliminary reports suggest some documents may have already been transmitted across borders.
Yadav has been charged under the Official Secrets Act and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, and is currently under custodial interrogation.
Conclusion: Security Protocols Under Review
In the wake of this breach, the Indian Navy and Ministry of Defence are reviewing security procedures and monitoring other personnel with access to classified operations. Operation Sindoor, whose details remain confidential, is believed to involve naval preparedness and strategic deployment in sensitive maritime zones.
This case once again brings into focus the growing threat of digital espionage, especially through non-conventional methods like social engineering and online impersonation.
