- Ola Electric leads the 2W EV market, despite rivals expanding their dealer networks.
On December 2, 2024, Ola Electric Mobility Limited announced plans to accelerate its distribution network expansion to 4,000 stores by December 20, 2024, marking a four-fold increase in the company’s store network. This expansion will include 3,200 new stores, alongside 800 existing ones, positioning Ola Electric as one of the world's fastest-growing electric vehicle (EV) distribution networks.
Massive Expansion to Boost EV Adoption
Ola Electric’s distribution network expansion will cover every pin code in India, significantly improving access to electric mobility solutions, particularly in underserved areas. This initiative is expected to have a transformational impact on EV adoption across the country, enhancing both product access and service support. Notably, all newly opened stores will be co-located with service facilities, aligning with the company’s commitment to strengthening its after-sales services.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, emphasized that the company’s expansion will play a pivotal role in India's transition towards electric mobility, contributing to the country’s journey towards the goal of #EndICEAge. With this wide expansion, Ola Electric plans to democratize electric mobility, making its best-in-class products available in rural, semi-urban, and urban regions.
Market Leadership and Competitor Dynamics
Despite the expansion of traditional two-wheeler manufacturers ramping up EV sales through their extensive dealer networks, Ola Electric maintains its leadership position in the electric two-wheeler (2W) market. Currently, the company operates 800 stores, which is just one-fifth of the distribution network of its competitors. This significant gap demonstrates the potential for growth as Ola Electric continues to scale its operations.
New Product Launches: The Gig and S1 Z Scooters
Ola Electric has also introduced its new Gig and S1 Z scooter range, with offerings like Ola Gig, Ola Gig+, Ola S1 Z, and Ola S1 Z+, priced between ₹39,999 and ₹64,999 (ex-showroom). These scooters offer affordable, durable, and flexible solutions designed to cater to the personal and commercial needs of customers in rural and semi-urban areas. Deliveries for these new models are expected to begin in April 2025 and May 2025, respectively, with reservations starting at just ₹499.
Ongoing Expansion and Future Plans
Ola Electric had previously announced plans to reach 2,000 stores by March 2025, but with the 4X expansion drive, the company is accelerating its efforts to further boost EV adoption. In addition to store openings, Ola Electric’s expansion includes its #HyperService initiative, launched to ensure exceptional service and support for customers across the country.
The company is also expanding its Network Partner Program, aiming to onboard 10,000 partners in sales and service by 2025. Furthermore, Ola Electric introduced an EV Service Training Program, aiming to train 1 lakh third-party mechanics, ensuring that every mechanic in India is equipped to handle electric vehicles.
