On May 27, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a gathering in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, delivering a strong message on national security, terrorism, and India’s economic progress. The occasion marked the inauguration of development projects worth Rs 5,536 crore at the Mahatma Mandir.
PM Modi began by painting a vivid picture of patriotism witnessed during his recent visits across Gujarat including Vadodara, Dahod, Bhuj, and Ahmedabad. He described the overwhelming presence of the Tricolour and the “roaring sound of a saffron sea,” symbolizing India’s deep-rooted love for the motherland.
Revisiting historical context, the Prime Minister reflected on the Partition of India in 1947 and the ongoing Kashmir conflict. He stated that if India had acted decisively against the Mujahideens entering Kashmir immediately after partition, the country might have avoided decades of turmoil. Modi referred to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s counsel urging the Indian Army to reclaim the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) but lamented that this advice was ignored, resulting in 75 years of struggle. Highlighting the bravery of the Indian Army, he said India has consistently defeated Pakistan in military confrontations, asserting Pakistan’s inability to win.
Addressing the nature of terrorism, PM Modi made a significant declaration that terrorism directed against India can no longer be termed a proxy war. Citing recent incidents where terrorists received state honours in Pakistan, he said this proves that terrorism is a deliberate war strategy by Pakistan, stating, “You are already at war, and you will receive the response accordingly.” Despite this, Modi emphasized India’s peaceful intentions and aspirations for progress and global contribution.
PM Modi also criticized the Indus Water Treaty, describing it as badly negotiated with provisions that unfairly restricted India’s water management capabilities in Kashmir, such as disallowing de-silting of dams.
Switching focus to India’s economic achievements, the PM proudly recalled taking oath as Prime Minister on May 26, 2014, when India was ranked the 11th largest economy. He celebrated India’s ascent to becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy, surpassing nations like Japan and the United Kingdom, a milestone that sparked national excitement, especially among the youth.
The speech concluded with Modi reaffirming his government’s commitment to national security, economic growth, and the welfare of the country and the world.
