  • Rahul Gandhi met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to discuss derogatory remarks made against him.
  • BJP MPs, Nishikant Dubey and Sambit Patra, accused Gandhi of links with George Soros and OCCRP.
  • Gandhi emphasized the importance of a functioning House and a debate on the Adani issue.
  • Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, expressed solidarity with Rahul Gandhi.
  • On December 11, 2024, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, urging him to expunge derogatory remarks made against him in Parliament. The remarks in question were made by BJP Lok Sabha MPs Nishikant Dubey and Sambit Patra on December 5, 2024, who alleged that Rahul Gandhi had connections with George Soros and the global investigative network OCCRP (Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project).

During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi stressed that the primary focus should be on ensuring that the House functions properly and that meaningful debates take place. He remarked, “No matter what they say about me, we want to have a debate on 13th December...They don't want a discussion on Adani. In the end, we will not leave this.” Gandhi’s comments reflect his determination to bring attention to the Adani issue, which has become a point of contention between the opposition and the ruling BJP.

The allegations made by the BJP MPs sparked a significant uproar in Parliament, with Congress MPs storming the Well of the House in protest. The opposition party demanded action over the breach of privileges caused by the statements of Dubey and Patra. As a result, the House had to be adjourned following the intense protests.

Outside Parliament, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul’s sister, also voiced her support, responding to the accusations made by BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, who had labeled Rahul Gandhi a ‘traitor’. Priyanka pointed out that those who had previously called historical leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi traitors would not hesitate to make similar accusations against her brother. She further added, “I am proud of my brother, and for him, nothing is above this country.”

This ongoing political drama in Parliament highlights the deepening rift between the Congress and the BJP, with the Adani issue continuing to be a central point of debate. The Congress party remains determined to pursue this issue, despite the controversy surrounding the allegations against Rahul Gandhi.
