Sharmila dares Jagan to prove his honesty and transparency regarding the scam
Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y.S. Sharmila openly challenged YSRCP leader and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to prove his honesty amid growing allegations linked to the liquor scam rocking the State. Speaking on Thursday, May 22, 2025, Sharmila asserted that the ruling YSRCP was gripped by fear as details of the scam unfolded, indicating a deepening political crisis.
Sharmila criticized Jagan for the harsh language he has been using, calling it unbefitting of a former Chief Minister and questioning the decorum expected from someone who once held the State’s highest office. She accused the ruling party of attempting to intimidate opponents and silence critics rather than addressing the scam transparently.
The liquor scam has drawn significant public and political attention, with opposition parties accusing the YSRCP government of corruption, mismanagement, and illicit dealings within the liquor distribution and licensing sectors. Sharmila alleged that this scandal is a symptom of deeper systemic issues under Jagan’s leadership, affecting governance and public trust.
Challenging Jagan directly, Sharmila said, “If he is honest, let him prove it. The people of Andhra Pradesh deserve clarity and accountability. Avoiding questions and resorting to offensive language will only fuel suspicion and distrust.”
The APCC president urged for an impartial investigation into the liquor scam and called for all responsible officials to be held accountable without fear or favour. She emphasized the need for restoring transparency and integrity in public offices to protect the interests of the citizens.
This public confrontation highlights the escalating political tensions in Andhra Pradesh as the State faces scrutiny over alleged corruption scandals. Opposition voices, led by Sharmila, are demanding stronger action and clearer answers from the ruling YSRCP administration.
Sharmila also appealed to the media and civil society to intensify pressure on the government to reveal the full facts behind the liquor scam, which has shaken public confidence in the current administration’s commitment to clean governance.
With the situation unfolding rapidly, political analysts suggest the liquor scam could have wider implications for the YSRCP’s image and electoral prospects if not addressed decisively
